Buenos Aires - Start ins Abenteuer

Feeling hot hot hot! Spring to Buenos Aires

Last day around Mendoza so a trip out into the mountains again to the hot springs at Chachueta. There were 9 pools, some cold, some hot, a wave pool and tremendous scenery. Mainly locals and not that busy so we pretty much had the place to ourselves, paradise in the mountains as you can see from the snaps. Overnight we took the bus to Buenos Aires (around 13 hours) in style... reclining beds, films in English, 3 course dinner and breakfast, not too shabby. Plus a game of bingo too which was a...

Buenos Aires - the story so far!!

Dudes I'm sat with the Smith in our hostel trying not to be Brits and go out before 10pm so I thought I'd use the time usefully by updating you all on our Buenos Aires Experience so far: Day 1 (12th April) About 8am - Arrived in BA! About 8:15am - A fun and informative taxi ride later (the driver knew English and told us about all the sights we passed), was greeted with a coffee and lots of local info from one of the hostel staff (Telmotango, BA). Amber had read up on BA prior to arrival and ...

Buenos Aires yet again

Thursday January 10th Buenos Aires The bus trip was not actually the best. We were upstairs, and sometimes the top of the bus swayed so much on the bumpy road, there was still a roaring gale pushing it sideways too, that Barb woke during the night feeling nausea. She is never bus sick, and luckily wasn't this time either. A pity, breakfast did not meet the standard of last night's dinner. A 'media luna' (sweet croissant), a piece of cake and a few dry cracker biscuits, and coffee or tea. We g...

No birds today. We're closed

Friday January 11th, Buenos Aires We found out the hard way that the 10% hostel deposits booked over web site bookhostels.com are retained by the online company, and if you cancel they still keep the lot. The web site says there is a $2 booking fee, but this is a fraction of the truth. Our one night actually cost us 121 pesos, not 110. We shifted to the hotel Brisas del Mar a few blocks away, where for 50 pesos we have a double bed, nice bathroom, soap, ceiling fan and cable TV. Next item on ...

Buenos Aires

1st to 6th April 2008 On the Tues, 1st, I got a taxi to the airport for my flight to Buenos Aires. The flight took about 3 and half hours, arriving in a thunderstorm. The airport transfer guy was waiting for me at the entrance and it only took 20 minutes to get to the hostel, despite there being some sort of demonstration. Managed to check into the hostel OK. The following day had a walk up to the centre of the city and along Avenida Florida - the main shopping district. I managed to book my ...

Good-bye BA

The problem with travelling or even just having a mobile life is that you have to say good bye to places you can never go back to. Today, I said good bye to Buenos Aires. I will come back, probably in the next few years, but I will never again enjoy the life I had here for a month. My favorite hostel receptionists will move on, my Norwegian friends will stop studying abroad and go home, stores will close, new ones will open, and my favorite restaurants will change. People who know I grew up t...

Buenos Aires

Alex - We got the bus from Puerto Iguazu (arg) at about 2ish in the afternoon to Buenos Aires. The bus journey was due to take about 18hrs so we were a little apprehensive after getting the bus to Iguazu from Sao Paulo which wasn't great! Anyway we needn't have worried as the bus journey turned out to be a pleasure! We'd payed the 5-6 pounds to be upgraded to first class- it was definitely worth it! We had enormous leather seats which reclined completely flat to become beds. After about an ho...

Back To Buenos (But not for long)

Short and sweet.... We arrived back from Colinia at about 9pm and had a nice meal at a restaurant in Puerto Madero (just a short walk accross the road). Dan had a long awaited Bloody Mary and then we sipped on San Felipe red wine (our favourite so far) the rest of the eve. For just one night we stayed at Telmo Tango hostel before getting up at 7.30am (I hate getting up early!!!) and catching our flight to El Calafate....so excited!!! LS
