... vliegtijd en 4 uur verblijf in L.A. ben ik om 21:40 uur lokale tijd in Papeete geland. Ik heb meteen een taxi gepakt en ben naar het hotel gegaan. Ik heb al met Tom de kapitein van Ketch Karaka gebeld. Morgen ochtend komen ze van Moreea naar Tahiti om mij op te halen.

... felt an influence of France: people speak French, for breakfast there is a croissant, in a supermarket you can find baguettes and French cheeses. However, it's definitely not France. In the airport a group of dancers met us in their exotic clothes. People are very friendly. Drivers give priority to pedestrians. The streets are clean. And it is sunny every day.

... at the hospital that Ines works at and were able to get her number. We gave Ines a call and said she and Julien were coming to meet us and there they were, wandering nonchalantly along. The 4x4 hooted and stopped and there were lots of hugs and double kisses around the two baguettes they carried. What luck it was choosing the one 4x4 with her colleagues in out of all 37of them!

... we landed. The flight took about five hours but having taken off on 3 April we landed on 2 April. We had crossed the international date line and so gone backwards in time and would spend the night of the 2nd again, but not in Auckland this time. We would be in Pape'ete.
