Happy Mid-Autumn Festival! Because Hong Kong gets the following day off, Alex and I managed to take a trip to Taipei! It's only an hour and twenty minutes away which is a pretty nice little flight. We headed off on the Sunday after work and ended up in Taiwan by 9 p.m.

Taiwan is a funny one. It's got a troubled history with China, which is balancing somewhere between trying to improve and being mean to each other. Until 2008, Chinese mainlanders couldn't visit Taiwan, and ...

... all very well dealt with. So...on to Taiwan!

Firstly, nothing could have prepared us for the heat we experienced in Taiwan. It was relentlessly hot with humidity that made your clothes cling to you the moment you stepped off the ship. Three days later - leaving ...

... looked at a couple of restaurants before making our choice. We set ourselves on "Genghis Kahns Mongolian Barbecue" which did look pretty good. We tried a local beer "Taiwanese Beer" plastered all over the label! Which was very nice. Then we had to be shown by one of the waiters the method of ordering our food. We had to go up and grab a bowl, choose some uncooked meat from a selection of beef, lamb, chicken or pork. Then add any vegetables we wanted to it from another wide ...

... trash Singapore's pasar malam hands down. The service is excellent here too. People are generally polite if not friendly, which makes the whole experience that much better. Their famous stuffs (pepper pork bun and fried chicken chop) are a little disappointing, but its the others that shined. The mango ice shavings are amazing, as are the smelly tofu, which rocked my world man. So nice and juicy that I want to eat again. Oh yeah, their soya milk is nice ...
