Muranga Road Nairobi, Kenya
... You can hear EVERYTHING going on, and when there are drunk people yelling at 1am, it is somewhat frustrating.
We woke up early though when these birds were making the most annoying noises!! We are going to have to really adjust to this whole camping thing! lol We miss Margaret's house and hot shower already!
Today we had scramble eggs and toast for breaky, which was pretty easy to make, and then we went on this local walk of a Maasai village and ...
... quite far away. We finally got there at 4pm, and chilled with his son for a bit. His son made us chai (tea), bread, and we even had the most delicious lemon cake! It was awesome. The only thing that sucked about yesterday's excursion was that we did not leave Kilonzi's son's house until 6pm, meaning we were late for our curfew, going to miss dinner, and it was going to be dark out before we got home. Big no-nos for 2 muzungu girls. But... the fact that we got to ...
Nairobi, Kenya britt.bennett... that Kenyans do not drink something with their meals! Especially when they are spicy! My mouth hates me sometimes!
Anyways, our first day of volunteering consisted of helping the teachers at a nursery school in the morning, meeting with the HIV + women at the office for a bit, and then we went for a visit at a school called Blood of Jesus Christ Academy. When we got there of course all the kiddies were yelling “mzungu”. The headmistress took us around to ...
... all that
without either parent (her mother died from TB and malnutrition and
after that her father left)......amazing!
Our only mode of transport to do the 30mins trip into town is to get
the famous matatu.....these non official mini buses are pretty
mental....driving at break neck speed with blaring music...cramming as
many people in as possible....charging me more because I'm white (there
is a big mentality here that all white people ...
Arrived in Nairobi, Kenya. We had no problems getting our visas and finding our ride. We came back to our hotel, the Panafric and went to sleep. Today we just lounged around the pool and took naps….man, do I love naps! This evening we met with our tour group and got the overview. We then ...
Nairobi, Kenya caralyn... us that they would not cross for some time. This was slightly disappointing but the overwhelming numbers we did see on the plains was well worth it.
While waiting for our next tour group to join us in the Masai Mara, we arranged with one of the Masai guards from our camp to have him take us to his village and show us around. Of course, it was not for free, but we bartered a cheap price with a few other people. The tall, slender Masai guards ...
... was 8 hours long so we had a long time wedged in sardine class. We arrived around 9pm at Nairobi airport and clearing immigration was excruciatingly long and took over an hour. We got through and the hostel had sent a taxi for us so we were relieved to not have to haggle for transport. Nairobi at after 10pm was eerie as the streets were deserted near where we were staying. It is known for robberies and crime so people stay off the streets at night. Arriving at the hostel we ...
Nairobi, Kenya kasnsqueak... enough. I suggested waking the baby up to eat at least once every two hours, and she looked at me like she had no idea she was suppose to do that. I've never had kids-but you're suppose to do that right? Especially if the baby isn't waking up themselves, isn't that a sign the baby is too tired from not enough nutrition? I don't know, we haven't studied that yet but it seems to fit. Anyways, what surprised me, or rather saddened me, was that seemed ...
Nairobi, Kenya orielle... of the road in the middle of nowhere. A friend of John’s drove us ahead so we could have lunch while they fixed the car, and then John picked us up and we were on our way again. Unfortunately, after that John’s troubles weren’t over, since we were flagged down by a random police blockade who told John he’d been speeding. John was understandibly angry since they certainly don’t have radar out here and this particular van was ...
Nairobi, Kenya scott108... to spend a fortune sending stuff home pre flight. The amount of times he's helped us out on this trip is unbelievable. Ben there will be a carton in the post for you!!! THANK YOU! For now though it is time for bed. Knackered. Goodnight. Oh and Mum Kate has injured her foot. She was racing Perri Perri from the other oasis truck, slipped and fell, grazing a mass out the top of her foot. Will be interesting to see what shade it turns tomorrow.
