On Monday, I took off from Auckland to visit the Coromandel Peninsula.
I wanted to do the Pinnacles-Billygoat Basin Walk in the Kauaeranga Vally, which is 18km long.
The hostel I was staying in provided a shuttle service to and from the trail head, but only once a day at 8:00 in the morning. Unfortunately, I arrived there at 10:00. I …
Captain Cook named it because the river reminded him of the one we're quite familiar with back home (although we couldn't really see the resemblance). Once upon a time Thames was the second biggest city in New Zealand and made a roaring trade in gold …
Good lord, what a day... A ton of moving about from activity to activity. For the first time on this trip really, I felt rushed! It's like I am cramming the last couple days with everything I can get in. Well, I woke up this morning at 7am at Urban Retreat in Taupo, packed up and had to wait for the office to open before checking out. I grabbed a …
How has this hostel rated in the past?
Staying at Sunkist has been a great experience. The hostel has a nice 1920s character with pictures displaying historic events in the area. Living room provided a great big tv with lots of available VHS movies. Management was very friendly and always open for a chat. Thames can be used for discovering the peninsula and tramping to the Pinnacles, visiting Cathedral Cove and experiencing Hot Water Beach. Great to stay at a hostel with such a relaxing vibe and great facilities!
