... and tomato. When asking what some of the eggs on the menu were like there were some which began with 'M' which I couldn't pronounce let alone guess what was in them. The waiter decided that I wanted these eggs as soon as I asked about them and told me they were tortillas with beans and cheese and eggs?! He was gone before I could tell him that I didn't want this but fortunately it looked like a mistake was made with my order. What I really got was some kind ...

... And of course, we go the wrong way and the trip takes longer again. We catch the bus to Playa Del Carmen and it's another bus ride with a movie we would love to watch, but is in Spanish so useless to us. We arrive in Playa into the famous 5th avenue. This lovely little structure is built on top of a cenote (well) which although now dry is once thought to have provided the city’s water supply. The cave-like entrance was also believed to be the place where the spirits of the city’s dead descended into the underworld.

Our journey from Belize to Playa del Carmen was our longest travel day, 13 hours in total, so it really ought to have been stress-free. But life is never so simple! In my eternal wisdom I had put my passport in the hotel safe at reception, expecting to be able to pick it up at 6:30am the next day which was our departure time. Except that the reception only opened at 7am, the time that our speedboat was leaving to get to the mainland in time for our bus to ...
