Rua Barata Ribeiro 111, Copacabana Rio de Janeiro, State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, 22011-001

Took around twenty two hours to get to Rio. Got delayed a bit in Buenos Aires. Rio has really been unreal. Must be up there for cities I've been in. The nightlife is second to none. The general attitude of people and atmosphere about the place make for a very enjoyable stay. We (now Richard and I) stayed in a great hostel, very close to Copacabana. Stone of a Beach. It was excellent for meeting people and had a roof-top bar with a jacuzzi and what not. Days were spent on the beach or in bed d...
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil 0234303Oh my God, were here, its pretty mad really as neither Em or I have slept properly apart from a wink or 2 on the plane for over 36 hrs!!! we had a bit of a nightmare at the airport where we actually thought they wouldnt let us on the plane.....not our fault, sta travels for booking us with quantas instead of BA but all sorted after an ordeal in the metal detectors!!! lol So the weather has been beautiful and we havent really done anything apart from lie on the beach all day and tan it up!!! w...
Rio De Janeiro, Brazil amberchatwinHey guys! We slept well last night, suprisingly really as were above a nightclub and the entrance to our roof top bar is directly in front of our room! Thankgod for earplugs thats all i can say! so after an early night and our first original caiprihana (how ever you spell that!) we awoke about 6.30 and decided to get up! Em decided that nature was calling and decided to go for a number two!!! however, that number two happened to get stuck in the loo and the toilet started to over flow! lol em...
Rio De Janeiro, Brazil amberchatwinBe Careful, don't go, its dangerous is all I heard on the lead up to my stay in Rio. Ok, yes, it is dangerous if you are not prepared and cognoscente of the fact that the little 13 year old boys wandering around the streets mug you with knives. I figured this and wore nothing but boardies t hongs and a shirt for the whole time I was there. I woke early one morning when no one else was on the beach and shot some photos of the place. The tourists who took wallets and the like out with them wher...
Rio de Janeiro, State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil amydavidRio, what can I say? Thereīs no doubt that itīs a pretty cool and happening place in an absolutely spectacular setting, but Iīve never felt more let down by a city in my life. Great expectations and all that I guess. For six of the first seven days we were here it spent the entire day raining and then when it eventually stopped it was just overcast, no sun. We ended up going to the beach only twice and Iīm looking pretty white I have to admit. The change of language from Spanish to Portuguese...
Rio De Janeiro, Brazil bosco I expected Rio to be the land of permanent sun, beaches and party, amongst other things. Which is why i was surprised to see rain on my second day...and shocked that it would continue to do so for the duration of my stay (and, indeed, for 2 weeks afterwards!).
I have reached the conclusion that i don't like visiting cities. Staying for weeks/months is one thing, but a flying 4 day visit like mine is a waste of time. For me. You don't get to really meet locals, you don't get to see anyt...
04/04/08: Rio De Janeiro Donīt believe the hype...about being held up at gunpoint for your camera, that is! We did believe the hype; hence we only have photos from about three days into the visit! The motorway from the Airport is worth a mention, no traffic lights until you get to Copacabana (40 mins in taxi). Stayed at a hostel called Stone of a Beach, it was two blocks from Copacabana beach. 05/04/08: We rented bikes from reception the first day and took in a lot..including the Botanical Ga...

Rio de Janeiro, State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil eoinokWe went to Rio for 5 days (supposedly) and ended up staying for 10! After the constant touring and bussing and touring and bussing and sightseeing and mountain climbing and deserts and mud huts and tents and more touring and bussing and sightseeing and amazing spiritual places etc etc etc of Peru and Bolivia, Rio was a well welcomed sun holliday!! Every one of us liked Rio and didnt want to leave. The first night we went out, the second night we went out, the third night we went out... you ge...
Rio de Janeiro, State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil frawlsMy final stop! How did that happen so soon??? After several recommendations, I checked into the Stone on the Beach hostel in Copacobana. Place is pretty nice, amazingly is air conditioned, and has a hot tub and bar on the roof! 16 bed dorm, so is pretty crowded, however I have already made several new friends to hang out with for my last week. Last night we went to the biggest football stadium in South America (canīt remember the name right now!). Its capacity is 200,000 - so would hold the e...
