Tongariro National Park, North Island, New Zealand scher-air... back or shout or scream. I will though never go there again. Though this is mainly because I’m on the final leg, the homeward run and may never come to Wellington again but still even with no chance of repeat business, seriously why the L & T.
In fact I’ve said good bye to the south island and in a way I’m on my way home. It was it’s normally stunning self as I drove up from Hammer springs and ...
... was still pretty straight forwards and continued. Just short of the final climb we came to a flat snow and ice covered area which looked almost like a lake and had our training in crampon walking and ice axe use. And off we crunched up the final climb to the top. All the time the views around us were just spectacular with the distant snow-capped peak of Mount Taranaki visible above the cloud (this was the mountain used as Mount Fiji in The ...
Tongariro National Park, North Island, New Zealand hadwin... in.
So, we found a guide called Stuart who was taking a small group up the next day and agreed to tag along. Now, going up mountains with groups is a particular pet hate of mine, there's always someone who cannot even manage a flight of stairs without stopping to replenish their donut count.
This group of eight had its fair share of annoying people including the Irish girl who swore like a trooper and could not catch her breath due to the ...
... of what could've been today in Tongariro. The way back up the hill is painful and draining. Not helped by the busy road - with trucks and mad New Zealand drivers. Back alive - I get into the shower and relax with a pint and dinner. Early night after that - set for the trip to Wellington the next day - which is on the south of the North Island. Ready to cross over to the much lauded South Island. Will wait and see. On my iPod Galway Girl - Mundy
National Park Village, North Island, New Zealand codownsean... Mount Ruapehu took a chair lift ride up to the mountain and took photo's of the views. The we drove all the way around Mount Ruapehu and back to Taupo. Would like to go back to Mount Ruapehu in winter when it will be covered in snow and maybe have a go at Skiing. www.mtruapehu.com
Mount Ruapehu, North Island, New Zealand adventuretime...

... into the Geyser to mix up the temperature of water and gases, the eruption last for up to an hour and water reaches up to 20 metres high. Nonetheless, it was done very well and was good to see. It was at this point that the return of the dreaded Japanese tourists happened - they appeared out of nowhere and caused the usual frustrations of standing up in everyone's way and just being annoying with ...
Ohakune, North Island, New Zealand waspey... a lower mountain pass (beginners with one intermediate slope) whilst Emmet went for the full mountain one, which meant he could access all the slopes, even the advanced ones. I should have just given the intermediate slope a bash straight away, but erring on the side of caution like the fool I am, I went back to the beginners slope. The slope was really icey, which made it alot more difficult to stay on your board. All my previous days progress was ...
