Travel Blogs from Brugge

Belgium day 3 - 7

A travel blog entry by leighbee87 on Sep 05, 2014

We arrived in Belgium on Wednesday night after traveling with "bus about" from Paris. After a short walk (although it felt like it would never end with our backpacks on) we arrived at our hostel, St Christopher's Bauhaus. It is on a completely different level to our stay in Paris. The hostel has its own bar, a comfortable lounge area, free wifi and …

Woke up feeling awesome! Got my **** together and headed out to the Groeninge Museum. No Simpsons here, but lots of Flemish art from the 15th century on. The first couple of rooms had stunning works by Flemish primitive painters. Lots of judgment day depictions. One beautiful painting was of a man being skinned. I loved this museum.

Spent …

Wow, what can I say, this place is probably the most romantic little town anyone could ever dream up. Its quiet, quaint and smells like chocolate and waffles! Horse drawn carriages, canals, swans, and lush parks - no wonder people come here to honeymoon!

I immediately fell in love with Bruges. Maybe it was obvious because I got asked out …

So, after some very stressful days in Paris, it was time to venture off to the quiet Belgium town of Bruge. This marks the beginning of our busabout leg of the trip, which is extremely exciting. We jumped onto the bus in Paris at 8am for our 5 hour bus ride to Bruges. The busabout crew play a movie whilst during the trip and for this leg they …

We had our first trip on a Busabout bus and it wasn't bad at all! The seats were comfy, there were chargers for everyone’s electrical equipment and the Busabout guide on the bus was really friendly, a bit nervous but we thought it was her first time on the bus as well. I didn’t see much of the French countryside driving out of Paris, my …

Was like a student dorm, not enough toilets, wasn't very clean, no hair dryer... WIFI was not working well. Great location! Nice bar downstairs.

Overall we had very good service and the place is clean. The hostel is only a 10-minute walk away from the Markt and the Belushi's offers great-priced beer and a free breakfast to all those staying at the Bauhaus. The only downside was the organization: it's split up in three buildings, which at first made it difficult to find our room. We're pretty satisfied overall, though.

Little strange having shared bathrooms, but was clean and tidy and curtains around bed which was great for a bit of privacy.

The hostel is suitable for young backpackers; the walls were plastered with postcard-filled wallpaper and finding my room was like going through a maze. The hostel was cheap and since I like Bruges, I was thinking of spending another night but the shower didn't have hot water and it was so cold that my toe nails turned blue.
