A Warm Welcome

A travel blog entry by tmm

So I was drunk. Then I was asleep. And now I'm in London. I did awake briefly before we landed. Long enough to get a coffee and complete my UK Customs Card. I spent the remaining 46 minutes in flight swaying to the sounds of the Alabama Shakes in my iPod, wedged between two American men, one on either side, both intently watching wildlife shows on …

I'm so impressed with my new hostel, it's kind of unbelievable. I have a top bunk (by choice - one of the girls traveling in a group didn't want to be apart from her group of friends on the other side of the room) with a window beside it so I can breathe at night and the cutest little ledge for my food and …

Day 2: London

A travel blog entry by lithobolia

I made it to London at 6:30 in the morning. We landed a full half hour earlier than expected, I breezed through customs, and I hopped on the train into the city. The long ride didn't seem bad at all, the whole trip from Gatwick to London proper is beautiful. I couldn't stop turning my head from side to side as we rushed by fields and cottages, …

C and C, or How we spent our summer in Europe

A travel blog entry by pratthor

... break. Betsy, Leslie, Dennis, Kathy and I went to a nearby beach for a quick dip or wade. We then made the second climb and long gentle descent to 300 feet and stopped for lunch at a traditional Croatian restaurant. The speciality was lamb, veal and octopus cooked in a Dutch oven or "under the bell." It was excellent, accompanied with potatoes, onions and carrots, bread and dessert. The offered beer, wine and lemonade. We pedaled uphill once again before cruising down to our ...

My First Ever Marathon

A travel blog entry by hstephens123

... in April 2012 it was her, not me, running in that marathon. However she'd convinced me it was possible and so the day that the London Marathon lottery opened online we sat in her office and both put in our entries. In less than a day there were something like 120,000 entries in the 2013 marathon ballot battling for about 30,000 spaces. I figured at the time that my chances were low of getting in, so why worry? Around October I got the news; I was in, but Lara was not. What ...

The hostel staff was wonderful and welcoming! And it was a nice relaxed atmosphere... Enough rules that it was clean and safe but not so many you felt like you were at boarding school! Haha! Amazing location! Stumbling distance to pubs and tube and markets. Only downside was cleaning staff was rather rude... :(

    Would highly recommend tho!
