A Warm Welcome

So I was drunk. Then I was asleep. And now I'm in London. I did awake briefly before we landed. Long enough to get a coffee and complete my UK Customs Card. I spent the remaining 46 minutes in flight swaying to the sounds of the Alabama Shakes in my iPod, wedged between two American men, one on either side, both intently watching wildlife shows on …

I'm so impressed with my new hostel, it's kind of unbelievable. I have a top bunk (by choice - one of the girls traveling in a group didn't want to be apart from her group of friends on the other side of the room) with a window beside it so I can breathe at night and the cutest little ledge for my food and …

Day 2: London

I made it to London at 6:30 in the morning. We landed a full half hour earlier than expected, I breezed through customs, and I hopped on the train into the city. The long ride didn't seem bad at all, the whole trip from Gatwick to London proper is beautiful. I couldn't stop turning my head from side to side as we rushed by fields and cottages, …

After a little snooze in, Joel and I settled in to do some work in the morning. My legs were in a whole world of pain, so I thought going for another run would help them. Wrong. Was painful but managed a few sprints around the park. Blister on the inside of my arch got very painful near the end and shortened my run.

After lunch we headed into the city to go visit St Paul's Cathedral which is the heart of London. The original church is ...

Day 9 - The One With the Fireworks

... to the Embankment where, along with about 300,000 other people lining Waterloo and Westminster Bridges and the banks of the Thames in between, we gathered to watch the fireworks. We found a good spot near Embankment pier and settled in for a cold, drizzly four and a half hours, and when it was all over, due to Tube station closures, faced a two hour commute home--walking all the way to Oxford Circus, sardining ourselves onto one train and then another, and ...

The hostel staff was wonderful and welcoming! And it was a nice relaxed atmosphere... Enough rules that it was clean and safe but not so many you felt like you were at boarding school! Haha! Amazing location! Stumbling distance to pubs and tube and markets. Only downside was cleaning staff was rather rude... :(

    Would highly recommend tho!
