Palace life
A couple of days ago, we crossed the border into Laos. Most times we've crossed borders, there's been a gradual sort of change that you notice in the scenery and the food and the people. However, this time, it was incredibly obvious that we were in a new country. We're driving through lushly covered mountains, past wooden huts. The temperature and …
Monks
Got a 20 hour bus from Chiang Mai to Luang Prabang. Horrible journey. The Laos roads are ridiculous. Finally arrived at 6 am to the sight of hoards of monks walking the streets in complete silence while people donated food to them. Surreal sight. Luang Prabang is a world heritage sight which means its protected from further development and so the …
Insurance
Got a 4 hour mini bus to Vang Vieng. Laos roads aren't getting any better. This is the place where the tubing happens, where you float down the river on a tube while drinking. Really didn't know what to expect. I have never had as much fun in my life. It's the CRAZIEST place I've ever been. I have no photo's from here and very little memory but I …

Connan Mockasin - Faking Jazz Together (Michael Mayer Remix)

Slow Boat Day 2
Our beds were disgusting – they had plastic sheets under the bed sheet, and this made me sweat profusely during the night. In the morning we got up at 7.30am and had showers. I say showers, the contraption in our bathroom did not deserve such a title. Essentially it was a short hose maybe a metre long at most attached to a water supply right …

Communal, simple backpackers joint with friendly staff. Younger crowd, I tought. Decently clean, good price considering LP is on the higher price point end. Decent WIFI and one free computer that is painfully slow as in most places in SEA. Careful with the free snake whiskey they have here. It ain't no soft drink!

Great atmosphere and a good spot to meet people. Friendly staff and friendly travelers. Just keep in mind it's very outdoorsy and you can't be picky about the accomodation, as they are sparse.
