It was mothers day yesterday, so I think that this would be the optimum time to break something to all the people reading this. I know you all think you have the best mother in the world, and thats loverly. But unfortunately you are wrong, because I do. My mum is wicked, she's well funny, and she's really nice and fantastic and she makes the BEST roast dinners in the world. (If you think your mum can cook a better one, I challenge you to a MUM COOK OFF) Also my mum is FIT, well done mum!!!!!!...
Rotorua, New Zealand bernie-sRotorua is a center of thermal activity - there's a nice smell of sulfur hanging over the town. It is also well known for Maori culture.
Rotorua, New Zealand elpinoineKia Ora this morning we got up early again and got on the road by 9ish. After a funny night, we were sleeping in a 4 bed dorm room and I feel asleep the first and 10 minutes later I've got Laura glaring at me from a few inches from my face saying through her teeth 'you are snoring so loud i can hear you over my music'. She had apparently shone a torch in my eyes from the top bunk and hit me with a pillow unsuccessfully trying to shut me up, so had to climb down and kick me, all I can say is i...
Rotorua, North Island, New Zealand gaz-ljKia Ora, well this morning I was rudely awoken before 6 with the most horrendous smell ever, worse than rotting eggs and school chemistry mixed together. It was rank and however I tried to bury me face in the pillow or under the covers it wouldn't go away, I guess its the joys of living next to the geothermal region. LJ could sleep through it no worries until I woke her up to ask if she could smell it as well ha ha. The wind must have changed direction as it eventually eased and we managed to...
Rotorua, North Island, New Zealand gaz-ljThank goodness to arrive here after driving for so many miles...we are so tired with all the travelling. The drive down was not nice it just kept raining but today has been stunning. We went horseriding today across the hills and Mark rode the horse from the Lord the Rings (yes really...see pictures) and i rode some random horse called Snip. Very odd name. Very evil egg smell as Rotorua is a thermal hotspot and has a, let's say, unusual smell to it!!! The hostel has a spa tub of its own with ...
Rotorua, North Island, New Zealand mk1I wake up late today - i had the whole dorm to myself last night and it is great not to be woken by plastic bags rattling! I walk around Rotorua for a while, looking at all the thermal activity. The town really smells and i am really not in the mood for sightseeing, so i head to the cinema instead and watch Bride Wars! I am booked on a tour to a Maori village this evening, and the bus picks me up at 5.45. The ceremony starts with the warrors rowing up the stream and then running up to the mee...
Rotorua, North Island, New Zealand pashbeeKia Ora everyone! I hope you're all well! I'm gonna start by saying this could be a long entry so hope you're in for a good read! DAY 1 Ok so after having our one nght in Auckland we got up for our pick up by the Stray bus at 7:45am. Harsh but it was worth it for the fun packed day we had. After our pick up there were a few others in Auckland city before we set off on our adventure. We went up Mt. Eden, an extinct volcano in Auckland which gave us amazing views over the city. It was really st...
Rotorua, New Zealand smiffy
... this point before deciding to go over the edge in a boat. You'd wonder why! The rest of the time on the water we spent swimming, in Gisele's case going down rapids straddling the back of the kayak, standing up in the raft going down rapids, trying to raft up rapids and so almost sinking the raft with water and sitting on the front of the raft while going down rapids and holding on for dear life! Great fun! It was all over and finished far too fast and we were back in smelly ...
Rotorua, North Island, New Zealand ciaradoonerush... crew lived in Hamilton during this portion of filming and never came into town. Our tour guide and our bus driver both come from Matamata and said that they knew there was filming going on somewhere around, but didn't know where. It was not until the first scenes of the movie when they show a mountain range behind the actors that they realized what angle it was filmed in and it eventually all came out. Some people warned us that the tour is not so ...
Rotorua, North Island, New Zealand andreat... As part of the tour in the village there was a Maori performance of singing & dancing, which included no other but pois, very similar to the ones I used to play with (they're just much better than me...). That's it here, I left Rotorua with two nice German girls that wanted a lift to Taupo. It was raining the whole day so we didn't really stop for anything and went straight to Taupo.
Rotorua, North Island, New Zealand ramdayan... If you had enough of photographing it from every angle, then you could sit down for a while on the concrete steps that were very warm from the sulphur underground. As everyone got the same idea, then our Maori leader invited us all to go and get a hot chocolate and then he gathered us all around on the hot steps as he told us a story under the stars with the peppermint green geyser spewing in the background. It was such a fantastic night. Really great fun and such good value ...
