Vaporetto, train, bus, plane and metro. Athens here we come. Caught the vaporetto this morning on our last look at Venice. The sun was shining on this lovely corner of the world. As we made our way to the train station up the Grand canal we realised happily that we had covered a very large part of this territory. On the way we passed the dock where all the cruise ships stop and saw ...

... interesting to see the site at the Rock of Mars just below the Acropolis where St Paul addressed Athenians in the first century AD.

Returning to the market place below the Acropolis for lunch, we were convinced by a fast talking Greek to partake of food and drink in his restaurant. A mountain of grilled meats and pita bread followed for just 12.50 Euro ! Very tasty too.

Aussie over and out ...

Every single person had a passport checked, was interviewed, have their checked and carry on bags checked and had them swabbed for explosives before one could even get their boarding pass. Logan and I stood in line and were called up. The interview was the typical, where have you been, where are you ...

Early start as ferry arrived back in Athens for us to disembark by 7.30. Back on the coach to pick up those of the tour who didn't do the cruise and a local guide for a tour of the city sites and a visit to the Acropolis. Passed some lovely Greco-roman and neo- classical buildings, columns remaining from collapsed temples, statues both very old and modern and eventually arrived at Acropolis. By this time it had become ...
