... routine and on to bus. Piraeus has city of its own with population of 900,000, joins Athens with population of 4 million, making Piraeus the third largest city in Greece. Our excellent tour guide pointed out points of interest while bus negotiated narrow streets and traffic jams. No rules for motor cyclists no helmets! Arrived Acropolis to very high temperature,, on tour brochure said must be able to walk up 80 steps but must been 200! ...

... shop-lined pedestrian streets of the Plaka neighborhood, visited the lovely, sprawling National Gardens begun in 1839 (only the 19th century, right?), took in the shops on Ermou Street and in Monastiraki, and generally wandered (or ran in Joan's case) around central Athens. ... rode the bus around a little to check out the Greek Parliament building and witnessed the changing of the guard, that was pretty cool, the parliament building is guarded 24 hours a day with changing of the guard every hour on the hour. ... decided to stop our tour there and go back to the room, out of the sun and resume later when the sun was not as harsh. By all accounts it was a very hot day, with even the locals complaining. We did our washing and had a lovely air conditioned restful afternoon ready for the evenings activities - our Segway tour.
