... 8.30pm we went to a local restaurant recommended by the guide. Unfortunately it was a little walk, but worth it. The food was great, affordable and we quickly demolished along with another beer to cool down and replenish ourselves.

After a big day it was back to the Metro and finally home, reasonably late for us, feeling tired but very pleased to be here. Sofia is quite lovely and very interesting and we both agree that we need to spend more time ...

... we wanted to visit Sofia. As expected, it was gigantic and totally spectacular. We went inside and took a few sneaky pictures before realizing this was not allowed… oops! But we took plenty of legal pictures of the outside from every angle (then returned again at night!!). See below…

... luck in the local river. There were suddenly more lorries/transports but four lane road facilitated passing. Picked up a country road at Riltsi. I love these smaller places. Many roofs and sheds have been passed by by Father Time. A 'hay cone', beehive-shaped, perhaps 12' high was most unusual. Second shepherdess found, this one looking after cattle. We entered the town of Rila at 0920 and carried on to the monastery. Did pass a nunnery and signs for other churches.
