December 29 We take a coach from Belfast Europa Station to Cork for 25,40p (27€ aprox). When we arrive to Dublin we have to change to another coach, and finally we arrive at Cork at 4:30 p.m. The hostel is quite close to the station, the bad thing is that you have to walk up a very steep slope and it's tiring! After leaving our bags in the room, we go for a walk along the city, which is undoubtedly the most beautiful city that we've seen. Dublin has its charm, but Cork... is awesome! It'...
Cork, County Cork, Ireland chinaskiNext morning after being woken up 7times by some inconsiderate persons alarm i take the bus to cork.Wander around the town checking out a couple of the cathedrals and the local shopping mall. After lunch take a bus to Blarney castle the drive there is quite good, the driver gives u a good account of the local history, The walk up the castle was very entertaining, two fat Americans struggling with the very narrow staircase, I'm surprised they let them enter due to the erosion they caused as t...
Cork, County Cork, Ireland philwoodsideHello! Okay, so I wrote a blog before but it didn't save. :( But! This one shall work! I've learnt a lot on my travels so far and I'm geussing that people do tend to learn a lot more, a lot faster, then if just sitting at home. However, it's all good! Lesson ??: What travelling with other people comes down to... When I came to Cork, I was over-tired, thankfully with a friend, and had more luggage then I started with. One thing I never knew about Cork, had never read in any of the books (or ma...
Cork, Ireland threepenny
A month since my last posting and less than a month to go. My own preparations are almost complete for my departure on 2 January 2010.
Skipper Stephen Hyde and crew made a great passage across the Atlantic on 'A Lady' they departed Grand Canaria on 22 ...
... the graveyard and sketched it while the sun went down. creepy? alex thought so, i wasn't as creeped out. for dinner that night we went to the grocery store and took advantage of the kitchen kinlay house had and made some sweet dinner...noodles and tofuuu. a nice relaxing day and getting some sketch on after a pretty unproductive dublin.
... and toured the Desmond Castle, which was a really small castle in town, really just the house of some nobles. This castle did have an old jail, though, that held immigrant prisoners, especially American merchant sailors who may have been labeled as pirates. We then walked up to Multrose Church in town, but it was not open.
We decided to drive to Cobh, a small fishing town about 30 minutes away ...
... of minutes because you had to provide the data for your car.
We had a 2 hour drive ahead of us to Blarney Castle and we were hoping the rain would stop- and that it did! The weather was clear by the time we got to Blarney Castle. There was a cute little town right outside the castle. We first went to the castle to "kiss the blarney stone". The castle wasn't really big, but it had some crazy, narrow, twisted stairs to the top. There was a little bit ...
... Blarney stone. Having been in Ireland I unquestionably had to go. From where I wandered, Blarney seemed to be quite a small village but very well kept. I ventured up to the Blarney Castle where I knew the Blarney Stone was. Those who kiss the stone are said to be endowed with the gift of eloquence or "the gift of the gab." The line was long and touristy as I had expected--If I have wanted to kiss the Blarney Stone for years then many others have wished this as ...
Cork, County Cork, Ireland ktowers86... of endless gags. I spent a lot of money and i had a great time. I met Hillsy backstage at the Falls Festival last New Years Eve and had a good ol' chat with him and his very attractive opera singing missus. Once again i had the pleasure of sharing a pint with me mate Hillsy after his set, talking **** and having a good laugh or two. Chatted to my new Irish mates in the beer garden after the gig, talked politics and all manner of Guinness-fuelled jive ...
Cork, United Kingdom thesaxman... Commons Inn, which was just outside the city of Cork, at 5pm. Checked in and rested after 8 hours on the road before heading down to the hotel restaurant for dinner. Prices were extremely high so we decided on a bar meal...just as good and a lot cheaper! After dinner we went down to our hotel room and rested in front of the TV.
