Plastic bags, the bane of dorm goers the world over. Cairns Cairns is de meest noordelijke stad aan de oostkust. Het strand van Cairns is een vijtftig meter brede strook modder tussen de kant en het water, onaantrekkelijk voor het oog, onbegaanbaar vanwege krokodillen. We ended up getting the bus straight from airlie to cairns because the weather wasn't that great (apparently it is approaching wet season, so laugh whilst you can!), so we thought there was no point going to magnetic island if it was going to rain. Finally back on the road again to explore the long awaited for East Coast. Amazing to wake in Cairns and have warm sunshine again and be able to wear and shorts and string vests! Cairns is a great spot - really lively with a great night life and lots to do. In hind sight it would have been a good spot to stay in for a few days and do day trips to Cape Trib, Tully etc but instead we hired a car and headed up to Cape Trib ourselves for a couple of nights. We stayed 3 nights in Cairns but didn't do an awful lot apart from book most of the rest of our activities in Australia. Cairns just seemed full of boozy teenage tourists. On the 19th March we all flew up to Cairns. We stayed in a hostel called The Serpent which was pretty cool but a bit far out of town. We spent our first day in Cairns organizing what we would do for the next two weeks. Arrived in Cairns on 7th March. had a good flight from Auckland. On a different time zone again, thi is getting confusing!! Am now 10 hours ahead ok the UK I think. Hello from lovely Cairns! This morning, I woke up at 5:00 am- our flight was at 7 so we were getting picked up at 5:30. The ride to the airport was uneventful and luckily the lines weren't as horrendously long as when we were off to Fiji. We boarded the plane and were off to steamy Cairns and the Great Barrier Reef!
