We woke up at 4:20 to leave for the train station at 5:15. Our leader got ****** that night so had to wake him up (no surprises there). We then took the coach to Proserpine station to start the 11 hour journey to Cairns. We arrived at the train station and took a coach to Nomad Serpent and dropped off our bags and then made our way down to the Red …

Little change of plans...

We arrive in Cairns at 08:30 after our 3 and a half hour flight from Melbourne. As we leave the airport the heat hits us straight away and the humidity! It feels good to be somewhere hot! We're picked up by the hostel and its about 15 minutes to get to Nomads Serpent Hostel which is a few minutes drive away from Cairns city centre. We check-in and …

Nomads may be a half an hour walk into the city, but there's so much space, activities take place every night, free breakfast and $3 dinners, shuttles that take you into town every hour (5 minute ride), and it's such a relaxed hostel to be at.
