Barcelonaaa

Ooh Barcelona. Mi amore. One of my favorite cities so far. We flew from Dusseldorf, Germany to Barcelona, Spain on Friday afternoon. By the time we got into the actual city, night had fallen. The second we got off the bus and stepped on the streets of downtown Barcelona, I was astonished: there were SO many people! I was affected already by the level of energy. We found our way to the hostel, which was also lively and colorful. We met and chatted with our four roommates, who are from Nevada....

The boys ad bizarre blunders in Barcelona

Bizarre weekend in Barcelona.  I say Bizarre but I don't mean it in a bad way.  I suppose I did not know how the weekend would turn out and I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of fun had and silly moments shared.  5 friends from my program and I ventured out for the weekend.  Better yet, my friend Erica and I somehow agreed to spending a weekend away with the 4 men of CIEE Language and Society.  With Jesse, Ryan, Evan and Miguel (actually from TX but his name is Michael,) there was never...

Did the US really just beat Spain in soccer?

Yes. The US did.

I am finally in Barcelona. The travel issues continued after Frankfurt in a number of ways. First of all, while I was supposed to be connecting in Rome, my flight was switched to another gate (there was a flight to Barcelona from gate B6 AND B13) and the announcement was made in Italian. Sure enough, I went to board the plane and the flight attendant informed me that I had all of about 2 minutes to make it to the other plane IN A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT WING OF THE AIRPOR...

... boom – boom’ of salutes being shot. The sounds only lasted for 15 minutes or so. I assumed it was fireworks, or how Spaniards call it ‘los fuegos artificiales’ or ‘pirotecnica’ The next day I went exploring, calling friends about the schedule and location of the fireworks. I found out that they were being displayed at Barceloneta and Plaza España. I decided to check out the closing night firework display at Plaza España ...

Barcelona

I took a trip with some friends to Barcelona for a four-day weekend in January. There were three of us in my traveling party, two people from my group Cindy and Dan and then myself. We met up with seven other people from our group in Barcelona. We stayed in a youth hostel in a great part of the city, near Las Ramblas, a major street with stores and vendors. We took a night train from Salamanca to Barcelona on Thursday. It ...

Born, Gaudi, etc.

... for the Gaudi park (same guy as La Sagrada Familia and various other funky modern building in Barcelona) which was commissioned to be a housing complex but eventually turned in a huge Dr. Seuss-like park. Admission is free and this is a great place to wander around or have an afternoon picnic with lots of entertaining street musicians and nooks and crannies inside. From here we got back on the bus and proceeded up even higher to the highest ...

A test of my spanish,,,,,,,,in Spain!!!!

... Thanks for your hospitality in Denmark and for joining me in Barcelona. I am sure I have enjoyed Europe much more than I would have without you both. It was great to see you both again. We will catch up again soon. And, good luck with everything! I hope I wasn´t too much of a pain in the ass! Whenever we do meet again, it will be too long:-( To try and describe Barcelona in a couple of sentences I would try with this: A highly livable city of about 3.5million ...

... to our hostel, so decided we would keep it for the next day. Our immedaiate impression was fantastic though. Barcelona is much more spread out and green than London, and immediately felt much more relaxed. People were happy and smiling, although it could also have been that I didn´t need three layers of clothes. Barcelona is FUN! We spent the first morning just wandering around, taking in the atmosphere and soaking in our first fully sunny day ...

Paris, San Sebastian and Barcelona

Hola de Espana! Last time I wrote I was on my way to Paris. Paris was fun, we were there for about 2 days. We saw the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre and walked down Champs Elysees. My favorite thing there was probably the Basilique du Sacré Coeur, it overlooks the whole city and we hung out on the steps there one evening. After Paris we were off to San Sebastian, Spain (Basque country). This place was awesome. There was a beach (with good ...
