      ... was simple but wonderful - pasta, salad and a small wine in a huge glass. We splurged on local delicacies from a pasticceria on our way home. (See separate note on carb overload.) Plus I couldn't resist visiting a supermarket to marvel at the local produce - breads, olives, cheeses, prosciutto, cheese and prosciutto, cheese wrapped in prosciutto - all divine. And after tucking Nanna into bed, I roamed around the streets for a bit, just breathing it all in. Love ...

      Today we went to Venice. The weather was particularly good with barely a cloud in the sky. This meant repeated application of sunscreen. Since Venice is completely cut off, we had to take a ferry to and from the city. It was nice to be in a complete city that had absolutely no cars or bicyclists.

      ... had a loft with another queen sized bed upstairs. The kitchen had a washing machine and the bedroom had a drying rack - this was basically as good as gold to us. We had been hand washing our clothes in our bathroom sinks and it's just not the same...Getting everything nice and clean was probably one of the best feelings in the world.
