... a set lunch menu and ate modestly, both in quantity and cost. Venice is reputedly very expensive, but so far we haven't found it more so than any other major tourist venue. I weakened and had a couple of glasses of the local red and accordingly by 2:00 I was more than ready for a siesta.
Our room eventually became 'ready' and we were escorted to our dim ground floor room down a tiny alleyway. The room is about the size of a French motel room, but it is clean and has ...

... stayed on the boat until basically reaching our hotel, but walking is more fun! We weaved our way back through the small crowded streets towards our hotel. The numbers of people around is surprising - I was expecting February to be quiet. But quite the contrary - in some of the main streets you can barely move. I suppose in summer it's a lot worse. "Oh no, no! Not on thirty-six day tours they don't" she replied, smiling at me. This sticks out in my mind so much, was this another one of her supposed 'chances' or is she just being nice? She's hard to figure out that's for sure. Is it too early to play my trump card and inform her that I can play the bass line to Deep Purple's Smoke On The Water?

Gondola rides and gelato in Venice

... We stopped for food, I had minestrone, again tomato less but still delicious. We then headed back. Yesterday Casey and I woke up to pouring rain. So we had a sleep in and a bit of a lazy morning until the rain stopped, then we headed into Venice. It was humid, but we were pretty lucky with the warm but not too hot weather. We wandered all over the city, seeing even more than we did the day before. We tried gelato and wow, the strawberry was maybe the best I've ever ...
