Touchdown... we're in Japan.

An overnight flight, or one very early in the morning is sometimes called a "red-eye". So it is with five sets of red eyes that today’s log is transmitted to you dear friends from the land of the rising sun. We find it hard to believe that we are here in Tokyo – this huge bustling, frenetic, giant metropolis of a place. We could not have imagined how beautiful and accessible this mega city is for a simple Aussie family on our f...

Refreshed and rejuvenated, we had a late start a hot shower each and a family chat over breakfast to plan our first real day of exploring Tokyo. Did we say what a nice place we have found in the Sakura Hostel? Archie made friends with everyone and took a particular shine to Shun – a friendly native of Japan heading for Singapore.

We decided to head to Akihabara – the electronics shopping capital of the world so it seemed. Michael was in his glory and has v...

Yes dear friends, today we found ourselves in Tokyo Disneyland, and what a sensational day we all had. When we were planning our trip, we thought long and hard about whether to visit Disneyland here in Tokyo – given that it was going to take a full day. We reasoned that it was a family holiday and that we were catering for all of us, so we voted in the affirmative and are all so happy that we ended up choosing to go...

I am foreskin!!!

Ok folks Makely at the helm here - sorry for the long delay in getting additional entries out, but hopefully I can add a few stories to make you laugh. As Birnie noted in the previous entry for Sydney, we were giddy like school girls on the second day in Sydney, so getting to Tokyo became a priority. A couple of things worth noting.... we have added some additional photos to our previous entries. After all, we have three cameras working here, six different flash drives, fourteen different len...

At Sakura Hostel Asakusa

After a fun 20 hours in NYC and a 14 hour plane ride Im in Asia at last. My first hostel is clean, a little quiet, and otherwise ok. I didnt get to sleep much on the 14 hour plane ride-- i had the middle seat so was squooshed somewhat uncomfortably for the duration. Went to a shrine near the hostel this afternoon, will look for some food soon, and then plan to sleep until i feel like getting up, which may take a while cause i am pretty tired.

Tokyo and go bust...

First things first: love this hostel! Advice: when you have recieved only 2 paychecks in your 4 month stay in a country dont go to an expensive city for a holiday or if you do have a really really goot time like we did. Tokyo was supposed to last 6 days and that turned in to 11. you wont want to leave, or ar least you wont want to leave to go back to Kyushu. I definitly recommend staying at the Sakura Hostel in Asakusa. There is also a good Tex-Mex food restaurant called Junkadelic in Naka-Me...

SUGOI

I must say, this trip was excellent. 21 students and three teachers trying to figure out the Tokyo metro, eating sushi, shopping, visiting temples, doing karaoke, seeing sakura, taking the bullet train - all the typical and rather fantastic Japanese touristy things.
