Entry Picture Link: http://picasaweb.google.com.au/ThreeVag abonds/NZNorthIsland On Wednesday, November 19 we woke early to take the ferry over from Picton on the South Island to New Zealand's capital city, Wellington, on the North. We purchased our passenger and vehicle ferry tickets when we rented our car from Apollo - a good way to save some $$ and hassle later on! Once we arrived in Wellington, we spent the day checking into Rosemere Backpackers (free breakfast and Internet!) and explorin...
Hamilton, North Island, New Zealand 3vagabondsThis morning is spent shopping for ski gear and uploading a few photos. The computers are as slow as Christmas so its a bit frustrating! To destress from the internet cafe we take a tandem reveres-bungy swing. Its not quiet the same as a bungy jump, as in this case you are seated and are swung up into the air at 120mph. Excellent fun. Afterwards we leave Auckland for the Coromandel Penninsula on the East coast. Its a short distance but the roads are very windy and almost all uphill so its lat...
Coromandel, New Zealand adelineBecause I stayed 2 days at National Park I got a new bus driver today and it took us 6 hours to get to Wellington which was ridiculous. I ran into my Italian friend Nico back on it though which was good and met some new people - Martin from Germany and Carlos from Spain (again good practice especially as his English wasn't 100%). We booked ourselves into a different hostel in Wellington from the rest of the bus as I'd got the impression that in the big towns they put you in dirty ****** place...
Wellington, North Island, New Zealand amandaseimsJump to see the pictures in New Zealand: Part I Jump to see the pictures in New Zealand: Part II Jump to see the pictures in New Zealand: Part III Jump to see the pictures in New Zealand: Part IV I can't sleep on the bus, so by the time I get to Wellington I am exhausted. At least I do not have to look for accomodation. That is a relief! I check into Rosemere Backpackers hostel downtown and go right to the info center to get my ferry and bus tickets. I can not sleep, so I go see Te Paspa muse...
Wellington, New Zealand fara8 flats down and still no joy! We've had 3 offers, one was short-term only for 5 weeks which doesn't really help us, one was a massive old house with 10 bedrooms and bascically available to anyone who could afford the extremely high prices (we couldn't) and one, although it had a spa, had no oven and freezer. Eventually it's gonna happen... a flat and flatmates we actually like, are going to call and give us first refusal, it's just a matter of time! Luckily the hostel 'Rosemere' which I'd hi...
Wellington, New Zealand guppyThe warehouse, the warehouse, where everyone gets a bargain!!! That's where we are of to now to get a bargain... more specifically to get everything that you need in a flat, toaster, keetle, hoover, iron and board etc etc etc. More exciting though, we have our moving in party tonight!!! I promise to take photo's and upload them which I know I keep saying but once I have internet at home will be soooooo much easier to do! It's such a pain having to visit the internet cafe to upload photo's and...
Wellington, New Zealand guppyIt was with much sadness that we made our way to the ferry terminal to cross over to the north island. The south really is a beautiful place and there is so much to see and do. Best of all, only one million of the four million population live there so you get a real feeling of remoteness in a lot of places. For such a small country, there really is a lot of diversity. We made our way from Kaikoura for the short journey to Picton to board the boat for the three hour crossing to Wellington. As ...
National Park Village, North Island, New Zealand marshallmatters First of all, it's July 22nd back n the states so HAPPY BIRTHDAY MATT! Hope you have big plans and we'll try to call later.
So we had a day to relax in Christchurch (on Monday) and then headed out on the train dark and early Tuesday morning. We stopped for the nnight in Kaikoura (in Maori "kai" means food and "koura" means crayfish). It's a small coastal town with a cute personality. We took the longer than expected walk around the pennisula after lunch and returned to our hotel for a...
