Rocking J'S
Travel Blogs from Puerto Viejo
Most amazing place ever!
Last Thursday Chantelle and I went to Puerto Viejo for the weekend. We stayed at the coolest hostel ever, which is why I am returning there tomorrow on my way to Panama! It is a hostel and restaurant owned by two American brothers, Eric and J. You could either sleep in a hammock, tent, or cabin, so we decided to spring for the ten dollar a night …
Quite an experience...Welcome to el Mar Caribe!
Of all the other places in Costa Rica, Puerto Viejo is quite unique. Upon arrival, you will be greeted (sometimes rather rudely) by a different, Caribbean crowd, often aggressively trying to sell you drugs. I think on our walk down the main street, we must have been approached at least 15 times in 20 minutes! Must be the way I look...

Back in PV for our last night in Costa Rica
We decided to book a shuttle to Bocas, which was very cheap, and included help at the border crossing, another bus waiting at the other side of the border to take you to the port town of Almirante, and the boat ride to the main island of Bocas. (Isla Colon)
We decided to let loose a little and enjoy our last night in Costa Rica, at Rocking …
Tent City in Puerto Viejo
Puerto Viejo is a small village on the southern Caribbean coast of Costa Rica. Its Only about an hour drive to the Panamanian border and is a great pit stop before crossing over!
We arrived in Viejo around 8 at night and headed straight for a highly recommended hostel called Rockin J's. The rumors were true this hostel was sooo cool. As …
Rocking in Puerto Viejo
Eight years ago, Kristi, Laura and I travelled to Costa Rica, and one of our favourite spots was Rocking J's in Puerto Viejo. So after a boat, a few buses and a walk over the rickety bridge into Costa Rica, Cletus and I picked out two of Rocking J's finest hammocks to call our home for the next four days.

TravelPod Member ReviewsRocking J'S Puerto Viejo
This was my second time at Rocking J's. It's truly a unique hostel, unlike any other...The entire place is a mosaic of tiles and broken glass, carefully pieced together as a massive piece of artwork. It's right on the beach, which is not much of a swimming beach, due to sharp coral, but very clear water, and there are places to get in. They've got many hammocks and hang out spots throughout, and a small bar/restaurant right in front with decent food and drinks. On the weekends, and in the busy season, this place can become a raging fiesta, but most people don't enter, who are trying to get away from the crowds.
