Crokhampton

We stayed an overnight in Rockhampton to break up the journey to Airlie Beach, we've had our fill of overnights trips now for a while! Just to fill in the time today before we catch the bus this evening, we went to a crocodile farm. It was great to see the big crocs being fed, the guide was a bit mad and got very close to the big predators. We found out lots of really interesting stuff about these prehistoric beasts, like they can stem the flow of blood to an injury and have a serum to heal i...

Away Harvesting!

On Saturday I decided to go for this job up in Emerald, Queensland about 1000 miles away from Sydney. Booked the flight on Saturday, flew up on Sunday to a place called Rockhampton and arrived with 2 minutes to spare until the bus left for Emerald. Unfortunately the bus is only a mini bus that holds 25 people. Normally this wouldn't be a problem because so few people want to go to the middle of no where, but on this particular night there's 25 Koreans who are going to work on the same farm I ...

Bugger this for a game of darts!

Back in Rocky. I seen everything the first time I was here. I've booked a bus to go to Great Keppel Island tomorrow, so that should be fun.

BUNDABERG

Since our last entry we have covered a lot of miles as we have to be in Brisbane by next Monday and there are so many places we wanted to see. This has definitely turned out to be an expedition and certainly not a beach holiday. I think we have only had about five hours on the beach, or by the pool, altogether! We would hate to miss anything. Since our last entry things have seemed a little quiet, how can you top flying over the Great Barrier Reef? Anyway during the journey we have passed thr...

Beef Capital of Australia

Hey all Well we survived our overnight bus ride. It actually wasn't that bad. But we're glad it's our last one and we're done those now. Hopefully by the next time we take a big trip like this we'll be rich and won't have to resort to the overnight buses, we can fly (or TJ suggests a limo driver instead). We didn't get a movie to our dismay, but we took two of the chewable motion sickness pills we had for the day of our dive. Jess thought we might as well pop them on the bus to make us sleepy...

Rancid Rockhampton

KT: From Rainbow Beach we made our way to Rockhampton for a 2 night stopover before going to the Whitsundays. We had always planned this as we didn't fancy getting the overnight bus and going straight onto a boat. It was good job we did this as due to all the bad weather (flooding) the bus was only going as far as Rockhampton. Luckily we booked our hostel in advance and we pretty happy with ourselves as everyone else was struggling to find accommodation. We had the worst journey to Rocky, it ...

Rockhampton

Rockhampton Rocky as it is affectionately known to the locals, is right in the middle of cattle country and is one of its main industries. During my 2 night stay at the Rockhampton YHA, I visited Dreamtime, an Aboriginal Culture centre, which was incredibly interesting. While there I had a tour of the museum with a guide, had a presentation on Torres Straits land, trade, culture and people, listened to the guide play and discuss the didgeridoo and attempted to make a boomerang come back. One ...

Hey guys, Got to Rockhampton after 12 miserable hours on the bus. The bloody thing broke down in a place called Maryborough which was dull as dishwater. To make matters worse we weren't allowed to leave the station while the bus was being worked on so it was soooooo boring and hot. The bus driver looked like the guy from Family Guy and talked to you like Harold Bishop (Neighbours) with his head pointed upwards and looking down his glasses. It was the only entertainment we had. Arrived in Rock...

Rockhampton. Tuesday August 19, 2008

... etc. Rockhampton is the beef capital of Australia, and they raise cattle there. The hayride as ok, but two of the owners kids kept running up and down the middle of the cart accidentally kicking people in their backs. People were not too pleased about that. By the time we got back the sun had set, and they were cooking our dinner. A pot roast loaded with vegetables. It tasted very good. Afterwards they showed us how to crack a whip. Everyone gave it a shot, and unlike ...
