Yesterday, I had some friends over for the baptism of the pan de ¨guagua¨ pronounced - wawa. My family prepared candelarias for the procession of El senor de Milagros and our house and neighborhood was alight in purple. From the street, we watched the procession of women, children and religious folk carry the representation of Christ and the Virgen Mary on a very heavy pulpit ...
Arequipa, Peru vmallon... rare bird; but I´m not sure it was worth the wait or the trip. It was too far away for a good photo too. Luckily the scenery was nice and I think practicing patience is an important part of my trip, because after the ´sighting´we were back on the bus for the return trip to Arequipa.
As it turns out there is not time for bus stories in this edition... you will have to wait for one of the next ones
Take care everybody

... Chachani things can quickly go wrong, which sadly they did.
On the way back down, the "prat" was walking miles ahead of us across the steep snow slopes of Fatima. Bjorn was walking about 10m in front of myself and Louise when we saw his legs wobble a few times and he collapsed under sheer physical exhaustion. Thankfully, he collapsed forwards into the snow. If he had collapsed sideways he would have tumbled hundreds of metres down into the steep valley below. He is one extremely ...
... it – got it? Oh, but don't forget that many of the roads around here are gravel or stone with huge pot holes. In case you thought those soap box cars had shocks, they didn’t! And also think about the amount of leg room you have in an airplane in coach class and then cut that in half. So are you getting the picture? Now imagine travelling for one hour like this – are you with me now?
Alto Cayma is what is referred to as a settlement ...
... beast. Texturally, it's quite a chicken like meat (no real surprise there). Slightly stronger flavour than chicken - maybe guinea fowl more than chicken. But really really tasty. Also (this bit's a bit sick actually), towards the latter half of the meal, I was becoming increasingly fascinated by the head. It was whole. The cranium was intact. I started to wonder if the brain was in there..? And so in I went. From a psychologist's point of view, it was ...
Arequipa, Arequipa, Peru choosechu... way from town. We then asked for “Home Sweet Home” hostel as listed in the guidebook. He still tried to take us to another hostel which he thought was “better”, but we insisted that he took us to our second choice. (Some taxi drivers are known to work with some hotels or hostels on a commission basis, dependent on the amount of travellers they could bring as potential customers to these hostels.) Anyway, we eventually arrived at “Home Sweet Home”.
Arequipa, Arequipa, Peru sonnat25... couldn't meet with him immediately. The delay of only a few days has me itching for the road again, so I think I'll skip it. Mi español es muy malo...and will stay that way!
A few more days here because it's a good, chilled place. I may even stay through the weekend and get my drink on.
Adios!
OH - received my package from the US a day late & now have full access to $$ again. All is good.
