... the bike for shipping, removing some of the luggage frames to reduce the height and make it easier to get at the battery for disconnection.
After that I took the bike to the "car wash", they wash any vehicle and a fine job they do as well, all I have to do is sit and drink coffee.

Back at Dakar news has arrived we just need a signature and I can have a new import certificate hopefully sometime after lunch tomorrow. Things are looking up.

On the Road Again

... women were killed during a protest that got out of hand (not sure what they were protesting, but we were told it was a frequent occurance). From the Retiro bus station (the main one in Buenos Aires) we took a taxi to our hotel. This was a 15 minute, 20 peso ride, which seemed reasonable, until the next day we walked back that way and found the it was actually only 5 or 6 blocks from our hotel, and we'd been taken for a ride in every sense by that cabbie. BA - a love hate relationship!

... some serious entertainment so Matt and I settled for the Guardian! My requests for Marley and Me went unnoticed. Food came in the form of a gelatinised meal that I chose not to touch at all at all all! It was time to put the recliners into action and sleep it off! Henry gave us his email address and I´m still wondering about emailing him, just to see what he has to say!? We arrived in BA early on Tuesday morning and made our way to Milhouse! It appeared cosy, very ...

Day 93 - Urugay to Buenos Aires

... their wares. Dropped my stuff in my room and I was meant to be in bed B but none of them were labelled and some were in use but it was hard to see which was free. I just stuck me bags in my locker and got changed then went to the main communal area on the floor where the reception was. Tonight was party night and they had a DJ set up where the TV area is normally. Also after the DJ there was a coach to take you to a club at 2am. I got my self a ...

BA/MV: Tasting European Colonial Charm, SA Style

... of the fans left. Common practice amongst South America's rabid and violent fans, the Popular section was let out last. On our walk along the highway back to the train station, a father and son tried to steal my camera. This is really an overstatement as they pointed at the camera and jammed their hands in my face for money and grabbed the t-shirt hanging over my shoulder. I grabbed the shirt back and, obviously ...

The journey back to Buenos Aires and beyond.......

... a while in a wee town called Villa Gesell, very laid-back but with plenty going on according to the guidebooks. Once decided, again we upped sticks from the hostel and headed to yet another bus terminal (we´re going to write a guide to bus terminals when we get back....... ;p). We got to the bus terminal at around 11.30am to book our tickets but again we had a long wait for the bus (at 1.30am). Unlike Montevideo though, it wasn´t hard to fill our day in BA while waiting for ...

Hammock Hippies in buenos Aires*

... of the iree vibes of kilca hostal. We checked in,set up our hammocks and headed for the corner store to buy some beer and snacks....It's funny how things work out, it makes me wonder if the warmth that myself and robs carry with us, translates into the warmth that we recieved today from people. I am content, I am excited, I am ready to let go, embrace and explore. Besito

Back to Buenos Aires

... run in Argentina & Chile this year as Africa was deemed too dangerous. The finish was in one of the parks in Palermo, we didn't see the actual finish but walked around the parked cars the next day & heard Volkswagen receive their winner's prize. The things that amazing me most were the enormous 6-wheel-drive support trucks that carry the spares & support crews. They leave each stage after the cars have gone & get to the next stage before the cars arrive.

Don't cry for me Arg - I'm back 4 Xmas

... meeting ex-work colleagues & childhood friends, her gran-aunt in Puerto Madero & buying presents. Yet again the day of reckoning was spent packing bags, cleaning clothes, burning backups of photos & doing all the things we should have done a week earlier; some things never change! The airport goodbyes never get any easier but this time we knew what to expect on the other side. Don't cry for us Argentina....

Buenos Aires - The Last City on Our Travels

... and seats and brass fittings. The plan is to replace them with modern carriages which seems a real shame. One interesting feature of these old cars is that whilst they close automatically, they have to be opened by the passengers which they often do whilst the train is still moving at speed! This can be a bit disconcerting if you happen to be standing in the vicinity of the door in rush hour with people pushing all around! Yesterday we decided to check ...
