Boy o boy. What a big day in the car!!! We left our camp site this morning at 8:00am. We passed through Point Augusta; not much to report. We headed toward Woomera where visited the test range. The boys loved seeing the old missiles, bombs etc... Back in the car and we drove through Glendambo; last fuel stop before Coober Pedy. We decided to have a …

One of Australia's most famous outback towns, Coober Pedy, 850km (530 miles) northwest of Adelaide, is an unusual settlement in the heart of an extremely hostile landscape. Frequent dust storms and a colourless desert landscape littered with abandoned mines contribute to the town's desolate appearance, yet the small population has a cultural mix of …

What a weird nights sleep I had. As there were no doors to the room, every time someone walked past or I heard a noise, I woke up. There was some guy staying here that was either off his face on smoke or very drunk and he kept walking past. I don't think he was taking any notice of me, to be honest, I don't think he really knew where he was, but it …

Had to go and pick the hire car up this morning as I was making the mammoth journey to Coober Pedy on my own. Had no takers from the hostel. The car hire company ended up making a mistake with the car I had ordered so they gave me a 4WD at only $5 extra per day. Happy days.

I left Adelaide at 9.15 am and was told it would take me approx 9 …

Living in an underground cave is pretty cool, if only I could stop myself from storing food in my cheeks ready for the winter- it pays to be prepared!

The hostel is nice enough, but the old fella working the reception turns into a right knob when you ask him any question (only answer: okay, just go somewhere else). Okay for 1 night.
