"Fin del Mundo" is the popular phrase used on the touristy passport stamps that you get when visiting Ushuaia. It means end of the world for the simple reason that it is the southernmost city in the world. It lies on the Argentinian side of the southern tip of the continent; on a breakaway island called "Tierra del Fuego" - land of fire. This was the assessment given by Magellan in the 16th century when passing this land due to the fires lit by Indians to ward off explorers. Cape Horn is not ...
Ushuaia, Capital Federal District, Argentina atullguptaStill a little jetlagged but improving. Ushuaia is an interesting city. The population sky rockets during the summer months due to the booming tourist industry. Here is probably the greatest concentration of English speaking Argentine. The city is very picturesque. Majestic ice capped mountains on one side and the Beagle Channel on the other. The main street of Ushuaia is filled with endless Duty-free shops, lots of hotels, hostels, internet cafe, resturants and amazing chocolate shops Mmmm ...
Ushuaia, Argentina kenthoiThis place is rugged! We´re so excited to finally be here! I´ve (Arif) wanted to do get here since grade school when I first heard of the Tierra del Fuego. Hmmm.... only 1000Km from Antarctica is what I hear... tempting? You bet!
Ushuai, Argentina pura_vida
... around Ushuaia - basically a large area of water surrounded by mountains with a lot of islands in the middle. We took off from the port and traveled to several of the more interesting islands including one populated by sea lions, one populated by cormorants (sp?), one island with a old lighthouse on it, and another big island where we were able to hike around and get some great pictures. The boat was a small one and there were only 5 passengers plus the ...
Ushuaia, Patagonia, Argentina derekjjensen... aqui.

O trem nos deixa dentro do Parque Nacional Tierra del Fuego. Gostei bastante do parque embora a maioria dele esta fechado devido a neve. Bastante neve e gelo pelas estradas.

Ushuaia, Patagonia, Argentina heinlisenkaNext day I took the 3PM ferry over to Tierra del Fuego, and spent the night at the town on the other side, I forget the name. Met a German couple and we had dinner, it was nice. The following day my goal was the final southern destination, Ushuaia, the southernmost city in the world. It rained all day, and as I rode further south the wind kicked up, and it go colder. Basically it was a miserable ride, but there was a town ...
Ushuaia, Patagonia, Argentina bocalee... in the straight. I don't know how many pictures I took, but it never seemed to be enough...this place is heavenly. It is so gorgeous and pure. The air here is among the cleanest in the world, and mountains and glaciers offer a scenery so beautiful, you really feel like you are at the end of the world. Tomorrow we will explore by foot a bit more of this beautiful place before we head to El Calafate, Argentina on Saturday.
ushuaia, Argentina simsinchile... of prey using the wind to such great effect. Spare a thought though for the mouse in the field, who moves from one position in the food chain to another before I can type this full stop. A record in the afternoon as we do a marathon 340km stretch without a break - not enjoyable but something that had to be done as there is not much on offer down this end of coastal Patagonia. Expecting Rio Gallegos to be yet another oil rich forgettable map dot, we revisit this and discover a ...
Ushuaia, Patagonia, Argentina barneyandpier... it down the Argentinian Malbec tinto goes down a treat at around 6 Euros. There's lots of possibilities for trips from Ushuaia - although many are quite expensive. We headed up to the Martial Glacier to see some snow on day 1, spent a lovely day walking round the Tierra del Fuego National Park on day 2 (really varied scenery, picnic by the sea, and lots of wildlife: condors, ibis, geese, otters, plus the results of beavers activity (rather than beavers ...
