Alameda Santa Lucia #17 Antigua Guatemala, Western Highlands, Guatemala
We checked out of our beloved hotel de revolution! We took the black smoke polluting chicken bus to the Antigua bus station. The road was jammed and bus was packed and we were inhaling more pollution than a coal factory worker in Shenyang, China. But the chicken bus had lots of character -- decorated in religious artifacts and loud music blasting from its speakers. We arrived in Antigua in mid afternoon, checked in at posada ruiz 2, which only costing Q 30 ($4) for two. One thing we both noti...
Antigua, Guatemala panf007Hmm, after paying Q37 a night for both of us, can I really complain about bedbugs and no running water? (yes probably). Thats about 1 pound 50 each a night though, amazing! Antigua is really pretty but all the views of the surrounding volcanoes are ruined by electricity cables (view fail no. 1). Heard stories of volcano climbing accidents (apparently the trick is not to panic when running away from lava flows...) so we passed on that one. Not much to do so we moved on after 2 nights.
Antigua, Guatemala travellingfi... Seriously, we were on top of a massive hill in the middle of Guatemala with thousands of kite and no wind. I think that is irony but im not really sure. So their attempts at getting these massive kites in the air were for nothing except for one. Several men would grab a hold of the rope and sprint as fast as possible to the other end of the field forcing the kite in the air. Once they ran out of room though ...
Sumpango, Sacatepéquez, Guatemala lindseyhehman... and either directly or indirectly asking for extra tips or even a free lunch, which was something that really brought the students out of their comfort zone. I do not think that the teachers had the right to exploit the situation like this, considering that we already were paying for attending the school. For the most of the 4 weeks, Maribel had a more or less functional cell phone with a broken keypad, but not once did she complain to me about it – she ...
Antigua Guatemala, Western Highlands, Guatemala chrisser71... time, I went back to the lava, closer this time. Less than a meter from the burning river, I was surrounded by steam. I should have been drenched in sweat but it was evaporating as soon as it exited my pours. My legs felt like they were getting the worst sunburn ever and my shirt, that it was going to ...
Antigua Guatemala, Western Highlands, Guatemala jaspergreene... my jeans was really hot. Funnily enough my butt was just tepid, I’m not really sure what that means, perhaps I just don’t have a hot ****. We took in the lava for a bit but before long it was time for the 3 km trek back down the mountain.

We went out to a few nice bars upon our return to Antigua and later that night it was time for me to finally part with the jeans I purchased in Beijing just before we boarded the Trans Siberian. Now about 4 sizes too big for me they ...
Myriam In English now: I have been livig in Antigua for 2 weeks now and unfortunately, my relationship with this city has not really changed ... I must say that I have suffered from a strong sinusite for almost a week and may be quite biased! But do not worry: I just spent my first night and morning, the air is ...
Antigua, Guatemala mymzy... oppositeo direction. To make it worse it's a tiny little 10x10 office at a checkpoint headed out out the city going in the wrong direction.... yes..... headed toward the CENTER of mexico, not leaving. I'm sure they have a good reason.....there must be.... probably not. It ended up taking me 2-3 hours to find the place because nobody in town knew where it was, not even taxi cab ...
Antigua Guatemala, Western Highlands, Guatemala macrosse1... hammering up, poco a poco. When I reached the edge of the summit I could see white edges on rocks around me. These rocks has ash like edges and very thin feather like material around them. They were on the left of me, one the right of me, and ahead of me. As I looked closer, I could see the red molten rock around their edges. It was hot, even though the winds were probably 80 MPH. I was unsure of where to go next, I stopped to assess my situation. I had ...
