Cape Trib and Port Douglas We checked out of the beach house this morning and drove off to Port Douglas. Before leaving Cape Trib though, we stopped and did another bushwalk on the Dubuji Boardwalk for about 1 hour. We then drove to 'Port' and checked into the Port O'Call YHA Hostel. We went for a look down to the harbour and found a dive company called HABA and booked a dive trip for the following day. They had an offer on which included a free croc spotting cruise on the inlet from the harb...
Port Douglas, Australia andy_and_julieWe headed north of Sydney to a little area called Port Stephens. It was here that we spent a relaxing 3 nights and also my birthday full stop. Our hostel was great, out of the way and in touch with nature. Our 6 bed dorm was a wooden building and the area was surround by gum trees. And what lives in Gum trees? Yep, Koala bears. We saw wild Koala bears everyday and i tell you, they have the ability to make you gawp for hours. You cannot help adopting a childs tone when you see one fore the fir...
Port Stephens, Australia hedwig_the_bearA bungalow hostel without air-con. Cooking in outdoor kitchen where we got eaten by mossies! Wild koalas outside the door, and a pet python! Went on a dolphin tour, but wasn't that good. Several nice bays and beaches but 3 days was enought.
Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia marikahWhat a lovely place! We stayed in a Koala Habitat in a 'Bungalow'. We were lucky enough to get a free upgrade as the room was double booked and stayed in the private ensuite double bungalow with fridge, microwave, kettle and dvd player/tv!!! absolutle luxury compared to what we've had so far! Really makes you appreciate these simple things we took for granted when we were at home. Went on a bike ride and got lost on an 8 hour epic trip! saw some dolphins and lots of kangaroos! got a vid of on...
Nelson Bay, New South Wales, Australia rhysandsuzie... in the family (Monopoly) so will be looking to him for future advice.
Speaking of entertainment, we were pleased to find at our accomodation the Aussie comedy classic, The Castle. A must see for just about anyone but particularly for us--as a former expropriator and the king and queen of usedvictoria.com. Let's just hope that our blog doesn't sound like Con and Trace's trip to Thailand...rent it, you won't be ...
First stop with the hire car wsa Newcastle. Supposedly Australias 6th biggest city. They'd try and big up anything at all over here in New Zealand and Australia. "The worlds 152nd best coffee shop as voted for by the Alzheimers Association". There was feck all accomodation in and around the city so we crossed the bay to Stockton and to a small camp site there. Straight away we were able to see the difference between the Aussies and the Kiwis. Basically the aussies talk ...
Newcastle, Australia conlou... occasions I would agree. However, aside from watching Surfest for a couple of hours I had absolutely nothing to do, so a few of us made a day of it. Plus, the best thing about going that early was all the prizes we won. First they gave us Guinness sweat bands, which is sort of an Oxymoron, then we won these sweet leprechaun hats which I wore the remainder of the day. Anyways, after quite the morning we made our way to surfest where the ...
Newcastle, Australia gustcles... Not exactly ideal cooling conditions for the fridges as that there's very little air-flow. But I'll survive because the beach is real nice and apparently there's great live music here. Oh yeah, and because I'm in frikkin' Australia! HA! I'm here till Sunday and then I think I'm heading to Byron Bay. It's supposed to be a backpacker haven/heaven... I'm not sure what's the difference. I'm looking forward to moving on and leaving the smoke and fire behind me.
Newcastle, Australia chattermouth... more trees today...kinda weird since were ment to be conservin **** and all we seem to have done so far is chop everythin down..ah well. its only a 4 day project this week so gonna go do some surfin at the weekend, hope the jellyfish arent out. when we went to the beach the other day, this guy we went with got stung so bad. it got like attatched to his boardies and then he grabbed it tryin to get off (not the ...
Newcastle, Australia gnarlytom... here to talk and get to know each other. I am finding that half the fun of travelling is the people you meet, not just the places you get to see. I stayed here a couple of days and had a really good time, met good people and mostly laid around doing nothing, much like home really! I dragged myself down to the river front and booked myself on a 2 hour river cruise to see the area from the water ...
