Prague, Bohemia, Czech Republic 2aussieladsSo Prague is officially my favorite city... so far at least. The architecture is beautiful and the buildings are very colorful... sorry still no pictures. July 19, 2008 Today I officially joined the Busabout gang. We had to be checked out and ready to go by 8 am.... yikes. The bus was pretty good. I had met a girl the night before and we sat together. The tour guide gave pointers on restaurants and places to see in Prague. The bus driver made a few wrong turns and what should have taken about...
Prague, Bohemia, Czech Republic dfurlerWe arrived in Praha on Wednesday evening, and mainly just explored the hostel and took it easy. Our hostel, Plus Prague, was huge and super nice. It has over 500 beds, a huge restaurant/bar area, free internet (cha-ching!), a swimming pool and a sauna. And it's the cheapest we've had for quite awhile. We love Prague already! Speaking of taking it easy, we should mention that our official Europe 2007 song is "Take It Easy" by Mika. This is because we hear this song multiple times, every singl...
Prague, Bohemia, Czech Republic jessicaeoookay... so since I last wrote.. our last day in Berlin we decided to take a free tour through the same company we did in amsterdam.. A guide picked us up from our hostel at 10:15 AM and we walked to the tram, caught the tram (1.20 euros) and ended up right in front of the brandenberg gate... We waited forever.. and finally we broke off into groups. Our guide was an australian who has been living in Berlin 11 years and is working on his PhD in German History. how convenient.. Right away we n...
Prague, Bohemia, Czech Republic romanuck_With all the walking and Bike tours along my swing though Western Europe, I pretty much limped into Prague a few days ago with some very sore knees. Nothing real serius as the limping and soreness would decrease as I would walk or even bike. They just seemedto bother me more when I was not on the go. The hostel PlusPrague.com that I am staying at, has been perfect for rehabbing the knees. I have been able to work out in the pool, large enough for lap swimming, and use the sauna. After five d...
Prague,, Czech Republic skip2938A short stop before moving on to the Ukraine and then down to the Black Sea! The journey from Germany went well. Had to switch trains twice on the way. One with a four minutes to connect, and the second with 8 minutes to connect. Problem was we were eight minutes late on arrival. Ran to train, ran myself out of breath, caught my train, it was ordered by the station master to wait for us, so turns out did not need to bust my ass getting there. Anyway, more then ever, a few days in Prague, and...
Prague, Czech Republic skip2938There is a saying in Spanish that says (roughly translated) "The world is a small handkerchief, folded in half." In other words, it's a small world after all. Interestingly, it is here in Prague (my first of the "Christmastime Travels") that I come to realize how true this cliche really is. Some of the people I have met here include a man who lives in Crete, IL-not so far away from where my dad grew up. This gent also used to be a railroad conductor for trains running from Chicago to Milwauke...

yep, I thought I'd be adventurous and try something new for coffee this morning... Turkish coffee it was... I think it was more like espresso. They served it to me like a staight espresso shot, but dumped the espresso grounds in the drink too... yuck! Made for a chaulky type espresso tecture/flavor... wouldn't recommend. Once the espresso/coffee grounds all fell to the bottom of the drink (because I let it sit there for so long...) it just tasted like (regular, to ...
Prague, Czech Republic tracyben... or something, and then left without buying a ticket! And the whole time, they kept turning around to admire the line of by now rather annoyed-looking tourists, and yell insults at us in Czech. Thank goodness I have this blog - I kept myself sane by trying to come up with good Czech puns! Anyway, when they finally left, we gave our Eurail tickets to the woman, and she stamped them. Everyone in the line thanked us for taking less than 30 seconds! 3. The train ...
Prague, Czech Republic kristinb... outside the church, some monks brought them inside, and then one dude decided to use them as his medium. now a lot of people think that this is entirely disrespectful of the deceased, and what if the skull i tooke a photo of was your great great great... grandma? here's the thing... these bones were in stacks of thousands. there was no knowing who was who. the plague wiped everyone out in a heartbeat and one monk decided to make ...
Prague, Czech Republic reecepachecoPrague day three, When last we met, our fearless adventurer was wandering the streets of prague with a scotish bagpipe band. I've pretty much covered all the major tourist bases by now and thoroughly enjoy the city. Yesterday I visited the Prague castle in the morning and took a walking tour of the old jewish quarter in the afternoon. The tour was a good one given by a local. She and the other czechs I've met have mixed feelings on the big ...
