Pitlochry Backpackers Hotel

... worthwhile (and hopefully worth the money, i'll see when I work out how much I've spent). I obviously won't be uploading the 4000 photo's I took but anyone is welcome to see them, they need only ask; and set aside around 5 hrs to go through them. This is Mike's log.......signing out.

A surprise - wasn't expecting to see this type of detail in a non-fancy church. Looks like a farmhouse on the outside, but on the inside a very detailed painted ceiling.

I would guess that not too many people actually make it out to this site.

Today was the adventure up to the Isle of Skye yet firstly we had to try the local brew... whiskey! So first up we went to the Dalwhinnie distillery – world famous for its distillery and that's about it! Unfortunately we had just missed the tour and wasn't game to wait another 1.5hours for the next one so we minged, read up on the history and how the good stuff is made and came away with a few souvenirs.

Across from the cathedral Lynda explained Uncle Dave's ashes were scattered by the River Tay and on the edge of the Cathedral as this was one of his favourite spots. Plus we learnt Lynda is a dog rescuer! River Tay has a particularly strong current so a dog she was dog-sitting (few months prior) was very lucky indeed.

... We all rooted for a man from Poland named Sebastian Wenta. He was a large Polish man with a big gut and a black
bandana tied around his head. He looked somewhat like a really big pirate. But, the best thing about him was that he seemed to be having so much fun. Every time he would come up to do one of the events, he would grin at the 2000 or so onlookers and wave to them. Turns out, we found out later he's a two-time runner-up in the World's Strongest Man ...

... it was a definite case of vege envy. I asked him how he kept his neighbour s out of his patch and he said he just let them help themselves as there was plenty for his wife and himself! Village life you gotta love it....

We travelled west following our hosts suggestions and even though I had a Garmin to guide me I still managed to take a wrong turn. Meh thats life. We found ourselves near a small river with some rapids and the next ...

For morning tea of course I had a scone. I also beat Danny into the centre of the maze - my thrill for the day.
Next we met up with Dorothy's daughter Amanda at the Crieff Visitors Centre where there is a glass-blowing workshop. The heat those blokes (and sheilas) have to work in is incredible. They get globs of molten glass on the end of lo-o-o-ong poles and ...

... by a charming farmer's wife who made us very comfortable. Homemade baked scotch pies ,sausage rolls and scones were on the menu for the stop and wonderful cups of tea. Off to Perth (the gateway to the Highlands) were we had a quick lunch stop on the inner ring road in Perth. A little rain drizzle made the stop quick and off to Dunkeld ...
