We doubled back from Nelson to Picton in order to walk the 3 day Queen Charlotte Track in the Marlbourgh Sounds outside of Picton. We had bad news for this track because part of the track on Day 2 was closed for animal control. It was only supposed to last a week, but has now been extended for longer, so we decided in the end to go ahead and do the trek, detour and all. Today was mostly a travel day. I was booked on the Bluebridge ferry to South Island, which turned out to be cheaper than Interislander and the times worked much better with my itinerary. The ferry ride was surprisingly smooth, but I gave up on the possibility of seeing spectacular views on the way to South Island. After a wonderful week "at home" with the family I decided to become a bit more adventurous and so on monday bought a very expensive (but well worth it) ferry ticket to the South Island.
