You really feel like a major dork in the first two days, that is for sure. But we do appreciate that Florence is very compact and easy to get to know. There is no real need for buses and there is no subway. Everything is walkable, and in fact easily walkable. On our first full day we began with a typical italian breakfast of coffee, toast, fruit, and cereal. We then accompanied Jeanne to Mercato Centrale so she could do a little shopping and we could see a bit of the ...

As some of our faithful followers may have noticed, there was no blog entry yesterday, as the group spent some quiet time recovering from the grand tour of Tuscany the day before. After settling in we went out to explore and also to buy some food for the evening; good to cook a meal occasionally. We had a look at the Duomo. Yvonne had ...

Whew! Not so hot today but tiring. We did the rounds...The Musee dÁccademe, Uffizi gallery, Musee Galileo (I was disappointed that works by the great man were markedly absent but the contents of the museum were inspiring), but I didn't get to (my) main game - Galileo's (and Michaelangelo's) tomb(s) in the Santa Croce cathedral - definitely tomorrow!

Footsore and tired tonight but pretty inspired with what humanity can do given the inspiration!

... for snacks and a glass (or two) of wine. We chatted with a bubbly young girl from Hong Kong named Ivy. She wasn't pleased about getting a rose to remind her of her single status. I tried to persuade her that it was from Hotel David and he could be her boyfriend but she wasn't swayed.
And there was an American from Detroit who didn't impress us because, when we said we were from Canada, said 'well that's the same as the US' and when told we were from central prairies, he just said ...
