The Cloud Forest on a Sunny Day

A travel blog entry by lisasadventures

You can never spend enough time walking through forests in mountains. That's why, after spending a week in the mountains around Orosi, we made our way to the cloud forests of Monteverde. Monteverde is a beautiful and unique nature reserve, perched high in the clouds. Not long ago it was an untouched slice of heaven, where you could spot a variety …

Last day/night in Monteverde

We liked Monteverde so much that we decided yo stay an extra day to hike into the cloud forest and hang around before we begin another journey to Arenal tomorrow. Getting from place to place take so long here since bus is really the only mode of transportation, the roads are rarely paved in the mountains, the weather is bad, and it is often …

Cloud Forests, Ziplining, salsa lessons, and drivi

Hey all,
Just doing quick upload of photos here. Have to head to the beach ASAP! Surf lessons today too - time to get our asses kicked by some waves!

Anyways, we left Monteverde/Santa Elena yesterday. The day prior was filled to the brim with entertainment. Morning started off with zip-lining, super-manning for 1.5km 500ft above the …

Seeking adventure in beautiful nature

We jumped into the activities in Monteverde, beginning with canopy ziplining - for those of you who don't know, this involves a series of about 12 flying foxes of various lengths and heights through forests. We built up to our last 2 ziplines, which were both 1.5km long and went over a valley very far below. For these, we opted to go 'superman' …

The very moment we stepped foot onto Costa Rican soil we knew we had arrived! Nat and I had become accustomed to quick, loose, and sometimes dodgy border crossings. We´ve been lucky and have had no problems nor long lines, but friendly conversations with locals and Customs workers instead! Crossing into Costa Rica was a bit more of a production: …

The best place to stay in the world

The staff are all extremely helpful with recommendations: when you tell them what you want to do they don't just say "this is the best one" they give you their choice and then tell you why along with giving you all the information about other options and why they may be some one else's top pick. There is free coffee 24-7 (which is a huge perk), a huge and clean kitchen, nice hang out area and somehow everyone that was here got along very well when we were in. They close the main area at 10pm, which leads most travelers to bond over beer in the bar down the road. We planned to only stay here 1 day and ended up staying for 4 solely because the hostel was so great. 6 dollar dorms and 30 dollar private rooms with bathroom in summer 2011. no hot water.
