The Zone 4 market used to serve as the bus terminal also, not for the faint of heart. Much of downtown Guatemala, including the crafts market was still destroyed from the 1976 earthquake, something still uppermost in the hearts and minds of Guatemalans. It killed thousands, mostly from falling adobe, but it put the ongoing civil war on hold. Zone 1 was still habitable back then, and the pensiones were full of groovers in between missiones, kicking back for a dollar or two a day.

Viva La Revolution!

We spend yesterday in Flores, pretty much did nothing and waited for our bus to Guate city. There were two Canadians girls from Quebec there, we played cards and chatted about our travel experiences. One of the girls lost her wallet in Guate City, and she is trying to figure out a way to get another credit card or something. About 10pm, we hiked over to the bus stop. The overnight bus to Guate City was packed, and we are only able to get last row seats. This is not a luxury bus by any means, ...

wasn´t sleeping or being a space cadet or anything, her connecting

airport like a chicken with her head cut off, looking for Gate E5. She
passed E7, E6, then... E4? WTF? And let me tell you, the only thing

Dave was nicknamed Gigantor, because compared to the Guatemalans he looked huge and in fact at the Yellow House the receptionist told him he was “their most famous guest because he was so tall.” We hung out on the mountain, until our shoes threatened to melt into the rock and the light began to fade as the day came to a close. The ferry looks full. It wasn{t. We pile in with all our gear in the front. Nothing too crazy happens on the journey.

Aurora Zoo and museums

We got up early in the morning and headed to the zoo. The zoo is very colorful. Since it was Sunday it was packed. They have all kind of animals, from elephants to lions, bears, birds, snakes, llamas, and so on. It took us about 3 hours to walk all the zoo. As we were having lunch it started to rain really hard including thunders and lightning. The rain was over soon but the ...

It also was kind of scary because the volcano could have spewed more lava at any time and we could have been forced to run down the rocky mountain in hopes to escape it. Luckily though we just got to see a magma flow about one foot wide down the ...

Antigua: Updaaaaates

Hey everyone! It's been awhile. Hope you're all doing well. Send me emails, I enjoy the news from home (jdn719@mail.usask.ca). Lots to tell you! I'm going to breeze over most it and hopefully bring you up to speed. Mmm, for the sake of ease, I'll do this in pseudo-bullet point form. Last, last week Lent began (Cuaresma in Spanish) and I spend much of a Sunday afternoon hanging out watching crazy processions, marching bands, guys in Roman-style ...
