Cologne is such a beautiful city with now a bad reputaition for me. We arrived on a Saturday night with a room booked at the 'Pension Cologne'. There was a big fireworks celebration by the waterfront that we wanted to catch once we had got settled into the hostel. This is where things go horribly wrong. We took the tram out to the hostel and walked down the street to find this place. The building was 2 loading docks and an office with what looked to be rooms somewhere. The number of the build...
Cologne, Germany beautiful_freakJust a quick note to have a little pin in my last (which was also my first) city of my excellent European trip :)
I had a really nice evening with Alwin and Stephanie (my original hosts in Europe), walking through the old town, having some nice hot red wine, and then some beers at a local brewery. Nice night, and then slept really well to go take my train to the airport in the morning...
I had a nice 10 hour flight from Dusseldorf to Fort Myers, Florida...

... together. The kids have been sneaking them all night now! Everything is good here but I am starting to miss my family even more with the holidays coming closer. Haunkukah is next week and the kids are getting antsy so I'm learning more and more about the holiday everyday now. Judaism is actually quite interesting to learn about and I'm sure I'm getting a better learning experience than most because the family I live with is very orthodox in their practices unlike most Jewish families today.
Düsseldorf, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany torilusk... of course). He may even bust out the ukelele.
This weekend I have a little adventure planned outside of Cologne. I will visit Hamburg, where I may or may not meet my elusive American friend, Pat, who is still wandering throughout Europe. More on that next time. Hopefully I will see many of you soon when I return to the US on the 18th! I'm so excited to spend some time (and Christmas) at home. I miss you all and send all my love!

... our hotel is next to the railway station which is next to the Rhine River, which his next to the huge Cologne cathedral (yes another NABC town) —this cathedral has the biggest something or other in Europe. It was nice and cool inside and it’s a hot day so we spend quite some time looking around. The highlight of this cathedral is a huge solid gild casket from the 12 century which is believed to hold the bones of the three wise men ...
Cologne, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany neverold... cool chocolate museum presented by Lindt and yes, you get free samples! You get to see truffles being made and rolling out on the conveyer belt. It reminds me of that episode of "I Love Lucy", when she's stuffing all of the chocolates in her mouth to keep up. We also went into some perfumeries and smelled a lot of the local scents. I'd like to buy a couple bottles and spray them down in the Cologne metro station I tell ya!! Now I know some of you have been to places and ...
Cologne, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany rachandshan... the Rhine River entering Cologne, the gentleman traveling with us yelled out, "There´s My Boat!" He pointed out the window to the river below and said, "Look...There´s My Boat!" I crossed the aisle to see what he was pointing at and sure enough, there was a big green boat docked alongside the river near the train stop where we were heading. The rest of the train ride into Cologne, our new friend sat there grinning from ear to ear as he gazed out the ...
Cologne, Germany petrest... The Seventh Mug of Christmas isn't a mug at all. Well, it is, but only in the metaphysical way- Like a chalice that holds the spirit of Christmas itself," I continue to lecture the bar's now cautiously curious crowd. "The Seventh Mug of Christmas is the mug filled with the comfort and joys that can only be found when in the comforts of home," I continue at an ever-accelerating pace. "It's not yet Christmas and I am surely not ...
Cologne, Germany nklenske... of grammar exercises before a coffee break and then my presentation. It was about Uni and finding jobs after Uni. It's a bit of a different system over here, for instance, the wage that someone earns can be dramatically altered depending on experience. Take politics for example. If someone has just graduated with a bachelor of politics and they have spent some time living or studying in another country they will get less money, than someone who gets a job straight from uni ...
