Far out!
All i can say is that we had never seen so many dreadlocks all in one place when we arrived in El Bolson!!! Its a 1970s revival place almost trapped in a time warp but very lovely. Imagine lots of people sat in a main sqaure chanting ´this is a no nuclear zone!!´ Apparently this is what they were staying in spanish!

Check out the meat!
Our hosts in El Bolson were so lovely that they even did a bbq for us and some of the other guests! Ash was chief meet picker and went with Claudio to the butchers and was overwhelmed by the amazing quality of meet on offer! Have a look at the picture of the bbq. Rather than sit down with your own plate and side bits, the meet was cut up and you …
Cerro Hielo Azul
The trek
1000 metre ascent on day 1, we know its coming so we plan for it. BIG meal the evening before. I knock up one of the 2 dishes I know how to cook(boiled veges aside), chili. We are no longer in Chile so that joke will have to wait. Plan 2, lighten load. I even take the locks off my bag to cut down on weight and also take 1 less pair of …
Home from home
You often hear fellow travellers comment that the impression you are left of a place comes more from the people you meet and the place you stay rather than the place itself. Never has this been more true than El Bolson - the fact we ended up there at all was fortuitous as I had mistakenly asked for a bus ticket to El Banos (the toilets) however a …
El Bolson... soooo chilled
This is the 2nd time that I wrote this text as it seems to not have saved the last time, might be a little shorter therefore.
After two consecutive overnight bus journeys and a day in Comodoro Rividavia (on a Sunday meaning everything was closed) I arrived in El Bolson, a hippie town surrounded by snow capped moutains, around 9:30. After …

Stored our gear while we were trekking, gave good info and the place was clean and tidy.

This hostel and the owners are definite winners! The husband built the cabanas all by himself and they're just incredible!
They offered a big common room with TV and internet but don't be too noisy because they live right next to it.
The kitchen was clean and good but the heating plates were so slow, almost as if they couldn't work anymore.
This hostal was oneof our great discovery in Argentina!

Family-run hostel with great atmosphere! They do an asado at least once a week which is prepared by the house host (a former chef in Buenos Aires) and his wife. Best chimichurri asado we've had. The hosts have two very sociable children both prepared to speak to you in English or Spanish. The accommodations are clean and comfortable. Location is a few blocks from the center. Highly recommend!
