Happy New Year!

Two in one today! I spent a few more days in Bangkok, I'd like to see that I'd been a good Lonely Planet tourist and ticked off the top ten sights but in really I went for the wander around and see what you stumble across method which worked very well for me! I did, however, make a few visits to tourist information but this was largely due to the air conditioning! My method meant that I'm not 100% what I saw but I know that I liked it, temples at sunset with nobody around except gangs of slee...

visiting Bangkok

A backpacker's paradise in Thailand The open fruit market in Bangkok Bangkok is one of the paradises in the world for backpackers like me. They have everything for backpackers. Gentle and kind people, amazing and mystic wonders in the nature. We can try all of them with no bother of money. Full of food and accommodations, comfortable restaurants... Chiangmai, for one or two days trekking there, you can experience more than you can imagine. Bamboo rafting and elephant riding, sleeping in the ...

We arrive in Asia!

After changing planes in Taipei and ascending into lightning and huge turbulence, landing in Hong Kong and finally Bangkok we were ready to walk around. Approx 23 hours after we left Seattle we checked into a Hostel called Peachy just near Khao San Road. I don't want to make this a long one as we've been here nearly a week now if you can believe that so here goes: It's really hot and I'm talking hotter than Australia at about 35 C + the humidity which increases it by 5 degrees. It's very smel...

Still at the Peachy Guest House!

Me again! For some reason the PC crashed and so I have to add another entry to continue writing... Didn't have time to spell check the last one - sorry! .. Anyway, I think I was explaining before about what I have been up to in my lessons. A mixture of games and stuff with the kids. I'll tell you about the kids who at the minute are one of the main reasons I'm not jumping on a plane and heading straight home!! They all have nicknames as their Thai names are so long! Favourites so far are"Earn...

Still at the Peacy Guest House!

Only me again Just had very nice breakfast and have the whole day to myself to shop, get a Thai massage and hopefully a digital camera!! Ok so I was about half way through my day... .. After lunch I normally have a bout 2 lessons so either finish at 1.20 or 2.15. If i do have a free I will try and do battle with the other farang teachers and try and get on line. I will lose! They are quite a lot older and either American or Canadian and I do feel we are invading their space a bit. They are of...

Stuck in bangkok en-route to myanmar ...

Stuck in Bangkok. En-route to Myanmar (Burma), which, if any of you have been following Myanmar news, is a much harder task than you would expect, we find ourselves stuck in Bangkok. With random border crossings, airline closures and unscheduled changes, making any definate plans is a bit of a challenge. National Museum: We hurried to get our visas for Myanmar - going to the embassy itself as same day service is then promised (only 810 baht for 28 days) to find that the signing officer wasn't...

The End of the Journey

After a 12 hours bus ride from Chiang Rai I arrived at the northern bus station in Bangkok. Unfortunately the bus station is located on the edge of the city. I had intended to try and take the Skytrain which is a new elevated subway system in Bangkok that passes nearby. As I was wandering around the station I came across 3 young backpackers and asked a young man if they had just arrived and he said they had. He said they were headed to an island in the south of Thailand but did not know where...

... like a million years so i cant be bothered arguing and just go with the flow. We arrange our visas for Cambodia and to do this you have to leave your passport so if your not comfortable arrange your visas at home (although you can get your Cambodia visa at your destination point in Cambodia - in our case Siem Reap airport. But you live and learn and as I said we were too tired to argue :) Whilst we are waiting for the visas we are going to go to Chaing Mai so ...
