More from the Metropolis...BA

Hola amigos, We are still in Buenos Aires, and having a great time...there is so much stuff to do here, itīs fantastic! As it is nearly the end of our time here, I thought I would share some of the highlights: 1) The meal that we had last night. We went to a restaurant called La Cabrera, which we had heard lots of great things about- some of the best steak in Argentina etc....so obviously, we had to get down there. -it certainly lived up to expectations...the steaks were grotesquely big!!! an...

Donīt cry for me Argentina!!

Wow, so its been a long time since we were in Buenos Aires, but here is what I remember happened!...

We arrived at 10am after a 40 bus journey from Rio. 2 hours shorter than we thought, but still.. a long time!

So you would have thought we had had enough of buses but no! after we found our hostel in Palermo and checked in, we went and hopped straight on the tourist bus that loops around the city! It was a good way to get our bearings though and get a glimpse of the different ar...

The start of a new journey

It felt really strange making my last minute calls and then sitting on the plane waiting to take off on my 4 month adventure. I had such mixed emotions running through my body. One moment I was asking myself what I was doing and was I going to be able to cope with 4 months alone. I even considered at one point turning back. However this emotion was quickly replaced by a huge rush of excitement running through my veins. I was actually watching my thoughts and found myself laughing at the stupi...

Walking with dogs, lots of them

We began our stay in the "Capital Federal" (what people here call Buenos Aires) in trendy Palermo. Lots of fashionable restaurants filled with beautiful people; needless to say that we felt a little out of place in our scummy traveler clothes. We were quite down on our first night (Sunday) in the city. The realisation that our flight back to real life was only 7 days away had hit us both squarely between the eyes and it was taking some getting used to. It didn't help that a few hours after we...

Buenos Aires

After checking out of the hostel we left our bags in the luggage room and went into town to check to see if the bus was leaving for Buenos Aires, we were told that the roads were open but that the bus would arrive later than scheduled. We left Peurto Iguazu at 4pm and after about 30 minutes of messing around with the seats getting them to lay back as a bed we settled into the trip. Once the first movie was over I went for a bathroon trip and on the way back nearly got run over by the waiter w...

Beef, theatre and shopping

As this was our second time in Buenos Aires we were able to enjoy our time. We stayed in 3 different places. Recoleta, which is a rich, concervative area near the Recoleta cemetery. We stayed in a very basic youth hostel, a bit too big and not very clean, but the location was great. There we met with a school friend of Guy's, Asi. Then we moved to Palermo Viejo, which is the best area for shopping and good restaurants. We stayed in a really nice hostel, Palermo House. Finally we stayed at the...

Argentina... BOOM!

Well its been an interesting experience so far. Our flight got into buenos aires at 12am Friday the 9th of October, and we decided to buy a bus ticket from the airport to the city but realised we had no idea where to go, no idea where the bus took us in relation to our hostel and that we would have had to catch the subway at this ridiculous hour of the morning as well, which would have been pretty scary for the first time youve stepped into a new country where you dont speak the language or t...

The End of our Adventure Together

Well today marked the end of 6 weeks together on the road, and it was a sad farewell indeed! Iīve noticed that it has been a while since our last entry in Bahia Inglesa/La Serena. Alot has happened since we cruised down to the pisco distilleries, just west of La Serena in the Elqui Valley. We have spent entire days walking the beach of La Serena and finished off the year by spending several days in Valparaiso. For me, Valparaiso was amazing!! We ended up having our own room on the top floor o...

Buenos Aires

Darcie hits the jackpot!

... my moneybelt this morning, when I checked out of the Hotel Waldorf. Maybe I left it there? But no, I couldn't have - I also remembered having the moneybelt when I checked into the hostel. I racked my brains for about 20 minutes ... and then I finally decided to take everything out of my backpack, and do a thorough search. And lo and behold, there was my moneybelt, tucked behind a couple of books. I blame this whole episode on ...
