When Lyn and I went on holiday after the last IBCF Regatta in Petersborough, Canada we drove from Philly to Miami. ... and eventually we arrived at the Thurston Lava Tube. Lava from Kilauea either leaves the volcano from the main cone or through tubes that it creates in the rocks, which eventually reach the surface some distance from the main cone. As the magna lake rises and falls within the volcano, these tubes fill and empty, often leaving a tidemark along the tube wall where the level in the tube was constant for a period of time.
