The Beautiful Bach

We stayed in a fantastic backpackers place after we left Wanganui, called the Paekakariki Backpackers in, of all places, Paekakariki. Had tea and coffee brought to us as we put up our tent on the lawn at the back overlooking the waves on the ocean, fantastic. A very nice chilled out place with some good folk, Canadian Jessie, Belgian Roger and the very entertaining Welsh Raymond with many a tall tale to tell. We took the train into Wellington on the Tuesday to have a wander and to meet with B...

Last chance to chill...

When we got back to the north island we stayed again at the excellent Paekakariki Backpackers, our favourite hostel of the trip, just a short train ride outside Wellington. I did some mountain biking outside Wellington, we met up with Breda's sister Niamh and her husband Stew for a night out, and then it was time to head north. We decided to beast it and drove all the way here to Raglan which took about seven and a half hours of driving - by far our longest drive yet. We had a few breaks alon...

DAYS 14 and 15

DAY 14 Today we move on to the Catlins which is an area in the most southerly point of the South Island. Before we set off and while Stan caught up with his stocks I took a walk around the residential part of Te Anau. Most of the houses are really small and look like large mobile homes and they all have tin roofs and many tin sidings too but some are really like pretty little dolls houses with ornate ironwork on them. The other surprising thing is how English ...

Wasting Time in Wellington

I'm afraid I haven't got much to add since the first entry, as Emma has been working full time and I have been wasting time waiting for the bar jobs to open up. I had my first trial at a posh bar called 3C on Friday, and it went well, but I'm still waiting to hear from them to see if I've got a job. Tomorrow (Monday) I have another trial at a restaurant called The Tasting Room which I'd prefer to 3C (there was ...
