Renee's first African accident.

... br>(some people went as far as to start running in what I assumed was the direction of “help”)

Ghanaians are awesome people.
Sure in this case they were clearly out of control with a skinned knee.
But still, you would never find that in the U.S.
I saw a car accident once when I was with the woman I met on the airplane.
This car side swept this other car at an intersection and the drivers side door of the car that got hit ...

first day volunteering :)

... his pulse first thing. everyone waited, on pins and needles, like he wasn't going to be alive. He looked completely emaciated--his body practically sunk into the bed completely--his limbs just looked like extra creases amongst the ripples of the sheets. his eyes were open, but in the way that it seemed he could be asleep-where only just a little bit of white snuck out from under the lid and his pupils didn't focus on anything. his mouth hung open and his lips were ...

Ghana and its many adventures...

... they explained everything and we got to work. We spent about two hours working, then ate lunch, then another couple hours on the house. The locals were very kind and very helpful. I was laying the large bricks, almost like cinder blocks, and putting the concrete between them to hold them in place. I found this to be a great experience and seeing the kids at the end really made it remarkable. Students from the ship gave them an ...

black stars game

... been in the mood for a sports event since i missed carolina's first football game the day before, and the excitment wasn't all that different from sports back home so it was really fun. Especially when we got into the game.

People cheered like i have never seen before. At each goal, people sprayed beer in the air, and danced like no one would believe. there was obviously a lot of noise and screaming ...

How are the eats you ask?

... being pretty safe. (I have not bought anything from joyce, joyce always pops out of a bush. Cleanliness and bushes? I think not) In Ghana they eat a lot of the same foods. Chicken. Rice. Plantains. (plantains are kind of like bananas I think) eggs and fish. As long as its hot, it should be safe (at least it has been so far ;) You also can't drink the milk here ...

FIRST FULL DAY/THURSDAY

... with MTN for GH˘40 with 15 pesuwa per minute calls to the U.S. That was the cheapest we could get, since the GH˘25 phones were sold out (supposedly, although when we told some Ghanaians this later, they laughed at us and told us the people at the store were lying).

We skipped lunch and had dinner at the guest house that night. Rice, chicken, and plantains. Then we talked about going out, but decided Friday would be a better night for it and went to bed early.

Akwaaba

... a great steal we also found two friends – An American girl and an Indian guy. How ironic! We were quickly brought to speed on Ghanaian life and culture by our new friends who showed us around the neighborhood, reassured us that the barbed wire on the walls was common all over Accra, introduced us to the local food stalls and made our welcome complete.

Lots of stuff!

... trying to get Uncle to set me up with someone good (they were actually talking to him in the other room, trying to set it all up), and thank god he told them that in America, women choose who they marry. Nobody can tell us who to marry like they do in Ghana. When we left to go to the internet café, he mentioned that I now have four husbands (meaning four potential guys to choose from). There’s Alfred, who I’ve already decided is not for me, some guy named Wabi ...

The oth** thing I must mention about Ghana is how religious and cvhristian a country it is. many of the small businesses are called religious names, such "The Lord is our Sheph**d Ent**prises" or "Jesus Saves haircuts" or "Trust in God Mobile Phones". That is only a tiny sample of the names that you see ev**ywh**e, and th ...
