We've never been treated with such disrespect. The staff at this hostel has no sense of customer service and is EXTREMELY RUDE! Do NOT stay here!

**** Weather in Dunedin

Dunedin was kinda lame- just a gloomy city. It was ******* down rain the whole time. Getting pretty worn down by the go go go, so just chilled out at the hostel with some pals. Better times ahead.

A car, a train and Michael Bolton

The drive here from Akaroa took roughly 6 hours, I stopped a couple of times for petrol and lunch but it was pretty much non-stop otherwise. I was advised by the hostel chaps from Akaroa that there was not very much between there and Dunedin and I must say the towns I passed through didn't stand out as places to stop at. I did pass some lovely views and scenery (I think this will be common place here!) and I wish there was a way to write down here how beautiful these views are but I cant so p...

Dunedin

Spent three nights here with my pal Dan, spent the 1st 2 nights recovering from QT so did not drink and just slept and walked around the city.

Dunedin is where the Cadburys chocolat is made so we went on a tour around there. There is also a major brewery there called Speights but did not do the tour.
On the 3rd night it was Halloween and we were dressed up and ready to party again. It was a really fun night but again we were up early to catch the Magic bus.

Little Edinburgh

So before we even arrive to Dunedin its reputation proceeds itself for being a Little Edinburgh! We did see the resemblences, mainly being the grey sky! But it was a lovely town. The main attraction for all the plebs out there would be the Cadbury Chocolate Factory (i say plebs as it is rubbush chocolate, and i of course have better taste!) Steve doesnt so we went for a tour!! :p Unfortunately it would have been nice to see the factory in motin but it was a saturday so it was closed, but we d...

Dunedine Day 57 and 58

Day 57
This morning I left for the city of Dunedin. On the way we stopped off for breakfast in a quaint town called Cromwell and soon after were back on the road. We then stopped off to take pictures of the dam on the way to Dunedin, however what i found more impressive were the reflections of the mountains in the lake, the water was quite calm so it looked like there wasn't any water there at all but the underside of the mountain. After that we stopped off at the beautiful Dunedin Railwa...

Dunedin, Lake Tekapo and Christchurch Part 2

After the excitement and fun of Queenstown it was to be a series of one day enforced stop overs on my way to Kaikoura. The first was Dunedin. The journey there was uneventful with little to see, so we made good time in getting there. Dunedin is a fairly large place for New Zealand with a population of about 125,000. It is the main scottish settlement, hence the name, and also has one of the largest Universities in the country. And it is the home of the Cadburys chocolate factory and Speights ...

Bel's wedding bells

... up in Annabel's clothes, drawing all over him and throwing him in the pig pen with the piglets! We spent the following day driving round the Otago peninsula. Our first stop was Larnach castle, New Zealand's only castle and were greeted at the ticket office by a man who exclaimed, "You're from England? You've got proper castles there - you must be here to take the mickey out of us!" The castle was built in the 19th century by an insane Australian banker and ...

9.02pm - The Lion Queen

... and unlike the Ninety Mile Beach (which is not 90 miles long, but still large), you can actually see both ends of it. I asked a couple coming the other way from the beach if they'd seen the sea lions (I was fixated - penguins are now old hat, seals and sea lions are the new thing for me), and they advised I go to the left, so I walked down the end of the beach, partly excited and partly intimidated, as there were many warnings of the "don't get too close, or they ...

... in. After a short walk from the carpark, we soon happened upon an endlessly long stretch of golden sand with frothy waves rushing towards us. Some way off were the Moeraki Boulders. These, are literally boulders scattered on the sandy beach as if they've just been washed up. There were approximately 10 of them varying in size from about 3 foot to 8 foot high. (David: They're more like giant marbles. Perfectly round. We first thought that the sea must have 'rolled' them ...

Næste stop var så faglederne. Ud fra de fag jeg skal have, skulle jeg tale med faglederen for marketing og for økonomi. Udover jeg igen skulle stå i kø, var der yderligere et problem. Nothing could be simpler than getting your friend to fly a helicopter near them, waiting for an opportune moment and then jumping out on top of them and wrestling them to the ground. I have a feeling poms would have used tranquiliser darts, but we have no sense of adventure. All of which makes my hang gliding seem comparatively tame. I actually felt quite calm as we drove up, I enjoyed the view, shivered in the early morning ...
