Prague General Information

Prague is packed with history and charisma. The sights are well kept and certainly arent a let down. The prices are still cheap and accomodation is very good. The food is cheap as hell and extremely good quality....The castle offers great views of the city while Charles Bridge always seems to have performers and exhibitions on to keep you entertained. This city is a sheer delight and is a must for anyone serious about travelling Europe... Baroque all around For complete information about Prag...

Arriving in Prague

Another early train, luckily the train made it all the way to Prague so no walking involved this time! Got to Prague and after a lengthily mission to sort out laundry, I set out to do some shopping! Not something I get to do often while travelling, but after the sun in Bratislava I realised I needed to ditch the sweaters and get some summer clothes. Once all my clothing related tasks were taken care of, I set out for dinner with an American guy who was also in my room. Another great pork dinn...

Kutna Hora

Got up decently early, got ready and had my breakfast (Got to love hostels that feed you!). Then I was off to grab a train to Kutna Hora. Had a great nap on the train and luckily woke up just before the stop. Once in Kutna Hora, my first stop was the main attraction of the town, the bone church. The Sedlec Ossuary is a church that is decorated with 40 thousand human bones including a chandelier that has at least one of every bone in the human body in it. There were strings of skulls and bones...

Prague

First job today was to pack up all my winter clothes and my new stein and ship everything home. My backpack is so much lighter now! After the post office I got a little lost, had a sushi snack and then found the river and made my way to the castle. Along the way I stopped at St. Nicholas Church and some of the other sights. I spent a couple of hours checking out the Palace, Basilica and Golden Lane along with just wandering around within the castle. I can't imagine what it is like here in the...

My Prague

http://www.oldpraguehostel.com This hostel was great! Would recommend it to any traveller who is looking for a fun time in Prague! We stayed in a 6-bed dorm, everything was clean and there was one cupboard for each person to lock their stuff up in. Showers were clean (although in peak times not exactly hot, but still bearable), toilets also clean and common room area also spotless (if a bit smoky at times). Best of all, the staff were really relaxed - no packing up the breakfast at 5 past 10,...

The City of a Thousand Spires

Prague is my favorite city on this trip so far! Or maybe of all time, not sure yet. It's definitely in my top 3 though. It's a beautiful town with amazing buildings. The styles are all different. It’s mostly Art Nouveau (my favorite) but also has some Baroque, medieval-Gothic, Roman Catholic gothic, cubism, and the list goes on. Every street is so amazing to walk down because there is so much to see. The buildings are so beautiful and decorated from the ground up.

Prague, Everyone should see it

I arrived in Prague on a train at about 3:00pm and my first problem was the currency. Not an issue but a little struggle. I headed for the bank machine to take out some Czech Krons and with drew 5000. It popped out a 5000 note. I thought for sure it was going to break it up a little. My next stop was the metro and knew for fact that my 5000 CZK note wasn't going to work in the machines. Even if it had worked, the metro ticket was 26 CZK and I didn't feel like carrying about 4974 CZK in change...

Learning Life's Lessons in Prague

This is the time of the year when I tend to do irrational things. The older I get, the more I find myself doing things I should have been doing when I was twenty. Instead of just accepting the truth, I justify my decisions through creative reasoning. Perhaps this is normal? Or perhaps it's a first-third life crisis? This year I find myself in Prague, which itself isn't irrational, as I am here on assignment for a handful of travel magazines. What is irrational is my decision to just now intro...

Prague - traffic jams, and no free parking

Prague, or Praha (if you want to us the non-anglised version of the name) is a large city. Shellie and I hit the edge of the city at 17:15 (or there about) this afternoon, and reached our hostel (about 5km away) at 18:30ish! The traffic was caused it appears by a big football match on this evening. It was insane, for example, it was the first time I have driven through a roundabout which had two to three lanes, plus tram traffic running through the centre.Once we arrived, we learnt car parkin...

A weekend in Prague

PRAGUE, CZECH REPUBLIC (12.09.08 - 14.09.08) Day1: First of all, let me say that this blog entry cannot possibly describe what a wild time we had in Prague... Katie, Vijay, American Dave & Chelsea left for Prague the day before us. In Copenhagen we had a big night at KolorBar, where there was free beer between 11pm and 1am. Needless to say, it was a massive night. Early the next morning Canadian Dave, American Dave, Omri, Eric & I caught our flight out of Copenhagen & all slept on the plane. ...

... some more. Thankfully, one of the girls spoke some engligh. We tried to pronounce the street, but couldn't. They called a taxi to see if they knew where our other hostel was, because we could get from there to our house, but they didn't know it. Just when we were about to take them up on the offer to stay and have a drink, Joe remembered that he had the receipt in his pocket that had the street name on it. They called a friend and had him mapquest it, then ...
