As we continue our drive, we come across Öræfajökull, which is an ice-covered volcano at the southern extremity of the Vatnajökull glacier and overlooking the Ring Road between Höfn and Vík. It is the largest active volcano in the country, and is 2,110 metres at its highest peak.

We had a short break at a lovely little village (name unknown) that was named for two nuns who did good work in the area. They met a sticky end that and were executed for saying rude things about the pope or having sex or something else equally outrageous for a nun.
