... up to have a look from the view point and behind it was the terrifically brilliant glacial lagoon full of icebergs. Real icebergs. We drove down a little further and on the left was the lagoon where we were able to take masses of photos of huge icebergs with seals swimming around them. We stayed there for quite some time as it was so amazing and every way you looked there was something even better then what you had just been looking at. Then we crossed over the road ...

... is estimated that that the Vatnajökull sheds about 100 metres of its mass each year.

We got a bit confused during the day because we kept seeing signs for different named glaciers, thinking there were many of them. However, we realised later that they were all part of the Vatnajökull Glacier and the separate names are the branches or the tongues that protrude from it.

As tourists try to take pictures of some of these beauties, they just stop their cars anywhere to do ...

... lunch in a national park (bowl of so-called asparagus soup was $12), we walked alongside the Svinafellsjokull glacier. It was good to get so close. We could see a group of hikers down on the glacier getting their safety instructions (we assumed). On the way back to the bus, we could hear sheep on the hill above us.

Our next excitement was a ride in a duck boat ride in the Jokulsarlon Glacier lagoon - which cost us $38.00. We went out among the ...
