... been black due to the volcanic sand and stones which make up most of the island. It was beautiful to walk on but there were multiple warnings not to go near the waves as they were big and very unpredictable. After spending some time taking photos and enjoying the quiet isolation of the beach, we took to the road again and travelled to Skaftafell national park (with many, many stops along the way as the scenery was amazing). The journey from Vik to Skaftafell is ...

The guide said they had several vehicles damaged because the ice was so undependable. Ok so after the glacier viewing we spent some time looking at the actual icebergs in the water and some of them were gigantic and the guide said the scenery in the lagoon changes every day, amazing. ... at dinner time. We make numerous stops throughout the day to take pictures of waterfalls, fjords and glaciers which Icelamd has in abundance. We make a quick comfort stop at Djupivogur to check out the sights ( not much) and have a latte, which is always made with whole milk! Icelanders do not know the concept of fat free! We arrive at hotel Smyrlabjorg, a hotel catering to large groups and hikers as it is near the fjords. A 5-star hotel it is ...
