Noosa Backpackers Resort

Well I spent most of Friday in Noosa on the internet getting my photos scanned and my travelpod up-to-date! Did some washing and stuff too and then spent the evening having a few drinks in the dorm with April and the other guys we were sharing with. Went today to the Australia Zoo, the zoo of Steve Irwin who died a couple of years ago when a Stingray got him. I expected a lot out of this zoo. Had heard really amazing things about it. And it is so expensive, so expectations were high, maybe too high. When I arrived, I rushed to the information desk to book an animal encounter with a wombat. I haven't seen a wombat yet, and thought it would be worth the $30 to spend an hour with a wombat and an animal trainer, but it was sold out!!! Appara...

I am enjoying a much needed day off today in Noosa. This is a fancy schmancy resort like town a bit north of Brisbane. I only came here because it was the best point to go to the Australia Zoo. It has a really nice beach, but I didn't go to it. Instead, I walked along a beautiful trail they have through the rainforest and along the cliffs of the coast. At 6.30am I took the Greyhound bus from Agnes Water to Noosa, a 9 hours drive. I got to Noosa at 3.30pm and spent a quite day at the resort. For dinner I had half of a pizza and was talking to Gary, a guy from Melbourne who drove the bus from the resort to the town. We had 2 beers and around 9.30pm I went back to my room. I left Stradbrook around 8.30am to catch my bus then ferry back to Cleveland. It was a miserable rainy day and very cloudy (but still humid). There have been floods up in Townsville and heatwaves down in Melbourne. Im somewhere inbetween but catching more of the Townsville weather. There is also talk of another cyclone. This morning I booked a trip to Australia Zoo through the travel agent here at the hostel. Its pretty reasonable and you get a free transfer to the place (and I get my student discount!). The plan in Noosa was to spend 3 days on our Noosa Everglades Canoe Safari and then a day at Australia Zoo (Steve Irwin's place). A couple of days before we arrived in Noosa it had flooded and in Rainbow Beach we actually met a girl who was rescued from Noosa Everglades during the floods. As it happened they closed the national park where the tour went for safety reasons and we couldn't go.... this would never happen in Asia!!! On the 10th May we catch the bus to Noosa, a little further up the east coast. We stayed at 'Noosa Backpackers', situated by the river.
