Rio de Janeiro, Round One

Arrived in Rio de Janeiro Feb 6 to Newton's Rooftop Hostel in Copacabana. Small rooms, but adequate, really friendly people and staff in a really good location, about five minutes from the beach and all the speedos and thongs you could ask for, or not ask for. Dropped our packs off and went on atour led by the owner of the hostel across the Rio Bay to Niteroi. Took a ferry, where people up front were singing songs, made for a nice soundtrack as we crossed the bay. At Niteroi, walked along the...

The start of my life in Brazil

After we arrived we stamped our passports and waited for a bus to Campo Grande where we would get a flight the next day to Rio. We didn't do much in Campo Grande, we just used the cable TV to watch some English TV which was nice, a bit of House them some Law & Order. Neither of which I've seen before, both of which are terrible and will never watch again. I'll admit I did appreciate just vegging out for once though. Th next day we flew to Rio. Finally the land of the beautiful people, I w...

Darren starts to lose energy and is serious need of an energy drink, and starts to slow drinks from the next water stand, which gives him hope that there would be water and energy drinks at the bottom of the next hill. Unfortunately, all of the energy drinks had been consumed or taken by aforementioned favela residents.

Rio

... streets were full of flowers and quiet little cafes, even the traffic seemed calmer. This area was the nicest place we’d been in Rio.

Another area not recommended enough is Centro, the historical and business centre of Rio. Safe to wander around during the busy working week, this area is full of beautiful old Portuguese buildings, grand museums and theatres, and lovely squares full of markets. It was strange to think this is what Rio would ...

Day 99 - Rio de Janeiro

... found out when we tasted it and it was like really sweet blackcurrant or something and was rancid. It didn't even taste like alcohol BBBRRR. The stoner suggested somewhere (I cant remember the name now) that was meant to be popular. POPULAR !!! I should bloody cocoa, when we got there 30 dib dabs later there was a queue half way down the street. It didn't even seem like it was a club. It looked more like a bar and was in a street of restaurants so ...

Rio the home of the mini bikini

... recently....as it is an ever changing piece of art.......with mail order tiles from everywhere!!!!! Visited the area where Carnival judging takes place.....a very serious business....as each group consists of 5,000 people in colourful costumes. Looks amazing but not sure if I would want to rent a box at 3,000 pounds per night. Finally we went up Sugar Loaf mountain for sunset, the cable car dangles between 2 mountains, moves quickly and is packed .......luckily we got near the ...

From Dusk Til Dawn

... but the smaller the bikini the better especially if you have got the booty to show off. From young to old and all shapes and sizes you will not see anyone covered up here. The men sport their speedos and the women sport as little as G-strings!!!! It's insane, but contagious. Why be so conservative when the whole beach is very very liberal. After seeing all the ity bity bikinis Vince and I bought ourselves our very own Brazillian swimwear!!!! and ...

... yesterday and got up a bunch. My friend who was a first timer also did real good. We are going again this morning and hopefully the waves will be good. It seems like paddling here is even harder than it was in Bali, but maybe that just means I havenīt been working enough lately. Oh yeah we also skated a park that is real close to the hostel and is right on the beach. We had to go around dusk because it is so friggin hot here ...

Day 240 - Ilha Grande to Rio

... back to Rio!

We knew that the busese to Rio left every hour on the hour and unfortunately we hit dry land at 9:02 with no sign of any buses whatsoever. We must have missed it.

We looked around for 10 minutes, getting progressively more annoyed about the lack of signs or information before finally spotting a ...
