    ... in 1912. Great views of the city below from the top, an informative social narrative of the cable car's history in the second station and some lovely forest walks around the peak, where we saw tiny Capuchin monkeys, lizards, butterflies and birds.

    The Botanic Gardens proved a quiet, tranquil sanctuary from the busy streets. Beautifully set out but, sadly, a little neglected, we nevertheless enjoyed the displays in the Japanese Garden, ...

    ... such thing as 'defensive' driving in is absolutely quite, motorbikes, thousands of buses weaving in and out, around...quite an experience!
    We started off our tour by Lewis taking us to the main stadium where the World Cup was held last June...quite a facility, that is located very near a lot of transportation options...quite clever. We were blessed with having a fantastic weather day...around 80F and not humid. ...

    Sunday today and we are off to the Hippie Fair in Ipanema. Walked along the beach stopping for fruit and coffee and cake at a little street market on the way. We only had a vague idea about where it was but we wandered around a bit and found it. Nobody gets up to early here so most of them were just setting up for the day.
