The heat hit us as soon as we got off the plane - over 40 degrees at 4pm! This is definitely one of the hottest places we have both been to. Luckily we were able to check into our hotel straight away to freshen up and then grab some essentials for the week ahead - money, map and beverages! We pre-booked a Rio carnival tour as lots of people advised us that Rio was potentially one of the more dangerous countries we are visiting, especially during carnival. ...

In the afternoon we went to the most famous landmark of Rio and one of the 7 wonders of the world, the Christ the Redeemer statue. The view ...

... seem to be specifically for show offs. Men linger around these doing the occassional pull up and press up when an attractive lady walks past. All a bit cringey!
We were back at the hostel for 2pm and checked into our private double room (R120/40 per night). It was small but very bright and nice and clean. We both went for a shower. Mine was cold :( but nevermind it was refreshing at least! Then we we went out to look for somewhere to eat.
We ended up at a pizza ...
