      Between us and with the help of a few locals we figure out how to get to the stairs. They are quite amazing really and there's quite a crowd when we get there but they all disperse in about five minutes when their flag tour ended! The stairs where created by one of the locals who lived there and he worked on them constantly changing them until his death last year.

      Arriving in Rio we could finally put the trousers and trainers in the bottom of the bag. Nice and hot. We stayed in between a party area, Lapa, and a bit of an arty part, Santa Teresa. Just around the corner from the hostel was the first of quite a few pieces of World Cup themed graffiti we saw - "**** the World Cup". While it is slightly more evident here in terms of flags and stuff in shops, there are a lot of annoyed people and we have been lucky to so far not have been affected ...
