Arrival In Bangkok

After a grueling 18 hour flight from Toronto to Hong Kong and another 2 hour flight from Hong Kong to Thailand, I've finally arrived in Bangkok! Man am I pooped! On the way to the city our bus had to pull over and wait along with the rest of traffic for the Royal Family to drive by. The city is interesting to say the least. I've checked into the New Merry Guest House for 150 B. a night. The rooms are shabby to say the least but they have 4 solid walls and a locking doors so i feel safe. I'll ...

A Fortnight in Vietnam

Hello everyone! We are currently in Bangkok waiting for the Christmas rush to end so that we can head back down to the beautiful beaches. We're hoping to leave tomorrow, so we thought we'd take the time to write a blog entry about our time in Vietnam. After crossing the border into Vietnam, we arrived by motorbike in the quaint town of Ha Tien. It was probably one of the first places we've visited on our trip where not a single word of English was spoken. Ready to embrace the challenge, we br...

The Land of the Smiles

Round about 5 weeks later than planned but I made it - finally arrived in Bangkok my starting point for South East Asia.
What a vibrant city and always on the move. It is a mix of opposites - glitzy shopping malls and ancient temples, skyscrapers and hovels, super cool and flashy cafes and simple street stalls. It is exhausting but once you open yourself up to it, you just have to like it.

Arrived dead tired at night, headed straight to Khao San Road ("Backpacker Central"), drowne...

A Slight Voluntary Detour

Instead of Vietnam, I write to you from Bangkok, Thailand, in one of many (and I mean MANY) internet cafes here. Our original plan was to fly through Bangkok and catch a flight to Danang. However, when we got here, we found that it was more difficult to book a flight to Danang directly from the airport. So we grabbed our bags, boarded Airport Bus 2, and headed off to downtown Bangkok. From the moment I set foot in the airport, I knew that I would love this place. There were uniformed officers...

Same Same

Arriving in Bangkok we decided to save some money and get the train into town. At the airport we were hassled to get a tour taxi, but eventually found the train station via Terminal 1. Arriving at Hua Lamphong Railway Station we found out the local tuk tuk drivers were a bit of a rip off, but managed to get a reasonable rate to the Banglamphu district (after asking a local what a reasonable rate would be). This is where most of the backpackers hangout. There are heaps of them here; something ...

stuck in Bangkok

bus to Bangkok from Siem Reap was a bit uncomfortable, very bumpy road, squished bus and no air con but ultimately survived through the border crossing in to Thailand. Very swish bus from the border to Bangkok which was much nicer! J got chatting to a young lady from the Bristol area (she'd had another curry and I was staying clear while on the bus) who kindly guided us to a very cheap hostel near Khaosan Road. Went out for food after from the street stalls, had some yum Pad Thai and explored...

Vientianessa kavin laakarissa kun koha ja kuumeilu vaan jatkui ja laakari katto mun kurkkuun taskulampulla metrin paasta ja kysyi etta onko mulla mun kaverin reseptia (Lhasan kaveri joka on keuhkokuumeessa Vientianessa) jotta han voisi kopioida reseptin.
