Neptunes International Backpackers Greymouth

We were up and out early to catch the boat from Wellington to the south Island. It was a 3 hour trip so we kicked back and tried to sleep. My thinking is actually that I'd like to recommend the hostel in Greymouth, if you ever had the misfortune of going there. It's a jewel in the incredibly rusty crown that is the damp, seaside town. It was still raining when we got to Greymouth - so it was fairly grey. But, apparently it's fairly grey on a sunny day so go figure. It was Saturday night so the owner of the Hostel told us there was a brewery tour in a half an hour, BBQ included so we said we'd go along. Monteiths is the brewery and it was a good tour. In Greymouth hatten wir dnn auch wieda nen richtig lustigen Hostel Chef. Der hat uns erst mal mit ner Bierflsche in der Hand begruesst und sich als Alkoholiker vorgestellt. Das Hostel war aber echt geraeumig und auch sonst ok. Donderdag 8 Mei Vanmiddag vertrek ik weer met de bus richting Greymouth. S' ochtends is het nog redelijk weer in Hokitika en heb een klein stukje op het strand gelopen. Daarna ben ik naar het locale museumpje gegaan die je wat informatie geeft over greenstone oftewel jade en wat info over de goldrush. S' middags de bus naar Greymouth. Just a small hop off in Greymouth, taking in an enjoyable short walk and a much more fun tour of the Monteith's brewery! Greymouth is one of the largest towns on the west coast of New Zealand, with a population of 11,000. I left Christchurch on Sunday 3rd February and caught the Tranzalpine train to Greymouth which lies on the West coast of the South Island. I was really looking forward to the tranzalpine trip as it is a 4 hour trip though the mountains and is supposed to be one of the most impressive train journeys in the world! Our bus ride took us by a wonderful walk called Foulwind. It was a short hour trek along the wild west coast. We had fun trying to video some of the sounds so we hope you enjoy it too. Also, there was a seal colony where we saw a few calves that were so fun to watch. Cute size too. The next stop was for a quick view of some rock formations called Punakaiki Pancake Rocks.
