... and it even had a Hooters around the corner from the hostel (I went for a beer, just one i promise). Built on drugs although now famous for Textiles also, home to Pablo Escobar and enough plastic (bums and brests in Medallin alone) to bottle evian for the next 1,785,021 years. Additionally home to Fernando Botero, artist...kind of cool.

3rd: Salento, Coffee region where there are many a ...

I <3 my new "chucks"

Bogota, Round Two!

... the best way to buy tickets was at a grocery store, so after retrieving all our bags we headed out into the overcast drizzly morning, careful to avoid carrying any bags on our 4-5 block walk to the store. Unfortunately tickets were completely sold out for the night and so instead we bought fresh bread, cheese, tomato and avocado plus more water. When we got back we made the most delicious sandwiches and relaxed. It was so ...

The First Days

... not been for the ridiculous mannequins cheesily posed throughout the exhibition. The basement is dedicated to the paramilitaries and drug traffickers pursued by the Colombian police force. The most famous of these is Pablo Escobar, a car thief turned drug lord and paramilitary. He was tracked down and killed. There are photos of the deceased Escobar along with many relics from the hunt for him. The piece de resistance is a mannequin of him in a glass box that is meant to ...

Colombian Capital

... 13 years, and contains some of the original features. As you might have guessed, the underground cathedral is constructed primarily of salt. The clever network of halls and chambers allow air to circulate throughout the structure, although it must be lit artificially in the entirety; it is underground afterall. The stations illustrates Jesus' last journey, his birth and his resurrection. There were lovely sculptures of angels and a piece that was ...

Bogota, Bogota, I love you

... saw one other person with a back-pack and decided to hang on to him like a life raft. Diego was Spanish and so could negotiate a taxi for us. Our toothless cab driver brought us through the deserted city streets towards a hostel. At some point he pulled over and explained to Diego that the hostel, or hostel area, was unsafe and he knew a better place. (´Pelegrosso´ is the Spanish word for dangerous and was one of the first I leart.) He probably was pals with the proprietor, but I didn ...

time to kill in Bogotá

... in the overall scheme of my traveling experiences ! In this particular journey, from the time of departing Caracas to the time of arrival in Bogotá was a total of 4 days and something or rather more hours. Reaching the town of Puerto Curreño was in itself an interesting ordeal and consist of a 4 hour wait in Caracas most sketchy bus terminal (Bandera) at 10pm at night (thankfully without incident ...

Bogota

... general is a little different as many people prefer to meet and drink on the streets beforehand. Inside the clubs, the bars areas are generally empty and the dancefloors are always full. I did get some strange looks every time I returned to the bar to buy another drink. Can you imagine that ever happening in Ireland or England? Sunday The weather had been mixed with some days beautifully sunny and others quite ...

... grown, such as the plaintain, yuca, guanabana and etc. Pretty cool, but think in terms of proper farming we are still on holidays. Its a year for good breakfasts, and the one we were offered here has to be pretty much equal to the Cartagena egg-meat-arepas. A starter course of eggs, followed by caldo (potato soup), followed by arepas, and a hot chocolate and cheese for dessert. 4 courses to start the day. Eat that Kelloggs. Hope all is good, hasta luego!

La complainte de Bogotá / A tale of Bogotá

La complainte de Bogotá et Quito: comment dormir deux heures en Colombie A tale of Bogotá and Quito: how to get two hours of sleep in Colombia ---------- Une fois à Bogotá, c'est devenu sportif.
