Picture this: It's 4.20am and you are arriving at a big empty station to get a 6 hour train to Warsaw from Berlin only to find out it is 2 hours late. Your breakfast consists of a strange thing only found outside Scotland called a McCroissant and a tea. You have been up since 3 am in order to get a connecting local train to the main station having had about 1 hours sleep (see updated berlin entry for details!) You need to get your reserved seat on the Warsaw to Krakow train but that's not goi...
Krakow, Southern Poland, Poland divachappieSince arriving to Europe around a month ago, Michael has continuously tried to coerce me into writing more entries in my blog. I never did throughout our travels to London, Prague, the Czech and Polish countryside, Wroclaw, Warsaw, Bialystok, areas around Bialystok, back to Warsaw again, and then to Krakow (with a side trip to Auschwitz, my second trip in a year and a half). I never wrote separate entries describing my stays in these places due to a number of reasons - for one, I felt like it...

... of Sydney. He took us in a backyard used by the youth movements, and told us of their Zionist efforts, and their activism in telling the other Jews, largely to no avail, what fate they were awaiting in the east. Meeting with a Righteous Gentile I was so moved to be in the presence of someone to receive such an honour, that I was in tears even before this elderly and humble man began to speak. Cry #3. He told us (through a translator) how ...
Krakow, Poland danestern... Now that's exactly the food I like to start my day with. Now that I am rested and fueled up I am ready to explore this beautiful city. First thing this morning I am going to try to take the bus over to Auschwitz and Birkenau. I don't want to miss visiting the two concentration camps since how often am I in the area? I know it will be depressing but I really feel I need to see them. I will let you guys know what I see and find around here later tonight.
Krakow, Southern Poland, Poland atlpilot36... carpet, brown cupboards, a mustard coloured bench seat and wood panelling everywhere. The plus was that we welcomed by a very friendly black and white cat. Sunday 25 May Wieliczka Saltmine is the only place in the world where mining has been continuous from the Middle Ages. It is built on 9 levels and stretches for 300 kilometres. We did the tour which took in only 3 kilometres and saw the salt that oozes through the rock ...
Krakow, Southern Poland, Poland dannyandkaren... by the Germans trying to hide what they had been doing or by the liberators and prisoners at the end of the terror. However what remains there is enough to get a clear picture of what happened here. Our driver dropped us off at the far end of the camp which allowed us to walk the 1 km length of rail line from the ruins of the destroyed gas chambers and incinerators and near by memorial to the entrance gate and building ...
Krakow, Poland callow1234... and a Polish teenager who purchased and smuggled forged identification documents to her Jewish classmate. Unfortunately, though, there weren't enough of these stories, and many people actually called the Nazi police to turn them in. For those that didn't actively choose to either assist the Jews or report them, there was often a decision, as well. As Alli said previously, I don't think any of us know exactly how we'd react to having a rifle barrel pointed at ourselves, our ...
Kaum was passiert / kaputt, jedoch Auto touchiert. Erfahrung der Sorte "Lektion dankend entgegengenommen". Nachtrag 30.1.07: Schaden ...
Krakau / Krakow, Poland pajas... I could see the city in its true form, however, I wasnt sure if I would actually make it back and would have been disappointed had I not seen the things I wanted to. So the next two days were taken care of...from there, 10 days...what to do. POLAND!!! I went on my way to spend a day and a half in Warsaw on my way to Krakow to stay for a week. Poland is cheap so that would be a great place to chill, recharge the batteries, not carry my bag around, not book trains and hostels and ...
Krakow, Poland jtpharr... stuffed inside his remaining clothes...just like spring break in Florida! The next day the story continued as apparently Nick awoke later that night and kinda freaked out about being tied up, tied up so well that the hostel staff had to cut his shoelaces to get himself free, and fell over and cut his head open on an end table...but he took it pretty well and was friendly, but wary of us the rest of the way! (the rest of the way being an overnight train to Prague in the Czech Republic)
Krakow, Poland trentThere were no drums in the deep, much to my disappointment, but I sent postcards anyway, from the depths of the Wieliczka Salt Mine. I seem to have discovered a hidden passion for salt mining, or how else to explain that the 3-hour tour went by in a flash? We only went down to about 135m below the surface, starting with 54 flights of 7 stairs going down, then our tour ...
